I ALWAYS BUTCHER IT. SOMEBODY HAVE ALL FOUR COME UP HERE AND THEN THAT ORDER YOU CAN COME TO THE PODIUM. APRIL GO AHEAD. NO, BROOKE BROOKE, I'M SORRY. HELLO. I'M JUST TALL. SORRY. YEAH. UM HELLO . THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME SPEAK WITH YOU TODAY. MY NAME IS BROOKE THORSEN. I'M A PRODUCT OF THE P WELL, USD SCHOOL SYSTEM MYSELF, AS IS MY HUSBAND. SO WE REALLY REVERE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT. THAT'S WHY WE BOUGHT A HOUSE IN THIS. AREA. WE HAVE TWO CHILDREN GOING THROUGH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT CURRENTLY, AND I AM A HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER. THIS IS MY 20TH YEAR WITH THE FULLERTON UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT, SO I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BACKGROUND. UM OUR DAUGHTER ATTENDS BERNARDO YORBA THIS YEAR AS 1/7 GRADER AND I WANTED TO ADDRESS THE UPCOMING VOTE TO TURN IT INTO A CHARTER SCHOOL. UM I HAVE A FEW CONCERNS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS QUICKLY. MY FIRST ONE IS A RUSH FOR THE VOTE. MOST OF US PARENTS WERE NOT INFORMED ABOUT THIS UNTIL OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR IS WHEN MOST OF US HEARD ABOUT IT. UM AND SO WE'RE CONCERNED WITH SOME OF THE IMPACT THAT THIS WILL HAVE ON OUR STUDENTS AS THEY WILL BE THERE NEXT YEAR, SO WE KIND OF LIKE A CHANCE TO HAVE A VOICE. IT WAS SORT OF LIKE JUST TOLD TO US THIS IS ALREADY HAPPENING. I'M ALSO CONCERNED AS A PARENT WHO HAS A CURRENT DAUGHTER IN ALL HONORS CLASSES AND AN UPCOMING STUDENT IN THREE YEARS. I WILL ATTEND BERNARDO. I HAVE LOOKED AT AND LISTEN TO ALL THE PROPOSALS, AND I HAVE ALSO SPOKEN WITH, UM BATH AND SO I THINK HER FOR TALKING TO ME ABOUT MY CONCERNS. I AM
[00:45:07]
CONCERNED ABOUT THE WAY THAT THEY'RE GOING TO RUN THE HONORS PROGRAM. NOT REALLY HAVING AN HONORS PROGRAM. THEY'RE GOING TO GET RID OF ALL CLASSES EXCEPT FOR HONORS MATH. AND SO A LOT OF HIS PARENTS ARE CONCERNED HOW THAT WILL IMPACT OUR STUDENTS FOR ENGLISH SCIENCE HISTORY, SHE STATED IN HER PROPOSAL THAT THEY'RE GOING TO GO BACK TO FUNDAMENTALS AND A LOT OF OUR STUDENTS DON'T NEED THAT. NECESSARILY SO I KNOW THERE IS A PLAN IN PLACE, BUT MOST OF US HAVE NOT BEEN PRIVY TO DETAILS ON THAT, SO WE'RE CONCERNED WITH HOW THAT WILL BE IMPLEMENTED BEFORE THIS THIS PAST. I KNOW A LOT OF PARENTS HAVE TALKED ABOUT WANTING TO MOVE THEIR KIDS TO OTHER JUNIOR HIGHS, WHICH WOULD TAKE AWAY A LOT OF THEIR HIGH TESTING SCORES. UM I'M ALSO CONCERNED AS A TEACHER OF 20 YEARS FOR LOOKING AT, UM HOW THE CLASSES WILL BE RUN BECAUSE IN THE HIGHER LEVEL CLASSES, YOU TEND TO HAVE LESS BEHAVIOR ISSUES, UM, AND IN LARGE CLASSES THAT ARE ALL MIXED THAT WILL IMPACT MY STUDENTS LEARNING UM. ALSO I'M CONCERNED WITH THE GROWTH FOR THE CHARTER SCHOOL CURRENTLY IS A VERY SMALL NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOL, AND WE APPRECIATE THAT THAT OUR KIDS GO TO SCHOOL WITH THEIR FRIENDS KNOW THEIR TEACHERS. EVERYONE KNOWS EACH OTHER. I KNOW MRS. SORRY. DR FISHER HAS TOLD ME THAT SHE KNOWS MY DAUGHTER. SHE SEES HER EVERY DAY WHEN THIS GROWS TO A LARGER SCHOOL BY THE TIME MY SECOND DAUGHTER WILL GET THERE IN THREE YEARS, THIS WILL BE SUPPOSEDLY OVER 1000 STUDENTS, WHICH IS ALMOST DOUBLE WHAT IT IS CURRENTLY THIS WILL IMPACT NEIGHBORHOOD TRAFFIC AND ALSO, UM CHIP FORCES TO POSSIBLY HAVE TO TRANSFER OUR STUDENTS IF WE WANT TO CONTINUE ON US OR OTHER HAVE A SMALLER SCHOOL.CURRENTLY MY OLDEST DAUGHTER CAN WALK TO SCHOOL, WHICH IS REALLY NICE, AND THE CLOSEST SCHOOL IS THREE MILES AWAY. INSTEAD OF THAT. MY LAST CONCERN IS THE PUSH TO DIFFERENTIATE OR HAVE SPECIAL PROGRAMS. SO EARLY COMPUTER SCIENCE SKILLS ARE GREAT. MY DAUGHTER ACTUALLY LOVES SCIENCE, BUT A LOT OF THESE HIGH SCHOOLS NOW HAVE ALL THESE SPECIALIZED ACADEMIES AND PROGRAMS ALREADY, UM, I DON'T SEE THE NEED TO PUSH JUNIOR HIGH KIDS WHO ARE JUST TRYING TO SURVIVE. THANK YOU. THANK YOU, BROOKE. YEAH. UM LINDA COHN. UH THANK YOU, AIDAN FOR YOUR SERVICE, AND THANK YOU. FORMER PRESIDENT YOUNG GOOD FOR YOUR SERVICE AS WELL. UM WE ENJOYED THE MUSIC FROM THE ESPERANTO QUARTET FOR SEVERAL MINUTES BEFORE YOU ARRIVED, BUT THE ONE SONG THAT THEY PLAYED THE MUSICAL COMPOSITION FOR ALL OF US IN THE ROOM. I THINK IT'S RATHER SIGNIFICANT. THE WORDS TO THE SONG. OURS FOLLOWS. GOD REST YOU MERRY GENTLEMEN. LET NOTHING YOU DISMAY. JESUS CHRIST. OUR SAVIOR WAS BORN ON CHRISTMAS DAY. TO SAVE US ALL FROM SATAN'S POWER. IF WE HAVE GONE ASTRAY. O TIDINGS OF COMFORT AND JOY, COMFORT AND JOY. I FIND THAT VERY INTERESTING. UM BECAUSE THAT REALITY WOULD BE MY INVOCATION FOR TONIGHT. WHICH IS SOMETHING I WOULD LIKE TO SEE ON A REGULAR BASIS AT THIS BOARD MEETING. CLEARLY WE HAVE ESTABLISHED A PRECEDENT AT THE ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION , WHERE WE'VE HAD MONTHLY IMPLICATION FOR YEARS. AH I RECALL SOME VERY POWERFUL PRAYERS AND ONE NIGHT IN PARTICULAR WAS PARTICULARLY CONTENTIOUS. IT INVOLVED A HEARING OF A CHARTER SCHOOL APPROVAL. THERE WAS A PARTICULARLY EFFECTIVE PRAYER FOR PEOPLE IN PUBLIC COMMENTS TALKED ABOUT THE CALMING AND PEACEFUL POWER THAT IT HAD ON THE ASSEMBLY. AND I THINK THAT'S WHAT PRAYER OUGHT TO BE. IT OUGHT TO BE NOT ONLY CALMING AND PEACEFUL. BUT ESTABLISH, UH, AN ATMOSPHERE OF RESPECT AND CIVILITY. IN A IN A PUBLIC PLACE. CLEARLY WE HAVE LEGAL APPROVAL FOR PUBLIC PRAYER AND I THINK THAT'S SOMETHING THAT'S VERY, VERY APPROPRIATE. FOR ANY PUBLIC GATHERING. IT'S A COMMON AH, OCCURRENCE IN OUR CITY COUNCILS. ALSO IN OUR CONGRESS AND A LOT OF OTHER PLACES, SO PLEASE TAKE THAT UNDER CONSIDERATION. I AM. ALSO COME.
IN MY $0 ANTI RECALL T SHIRT TO BRING YOU GREETINGS FROM O U. S. D. AH REALIZED THAT THE RECALL DOWN THERE IS A PILOT PROJECT AND IF THEY SUCCEED AS THE UNION HAS STATED. THEY PLAN TO GO ELSEWHERE AND TARGET CERTAIN MEMBERS OF SCHOOL BOARDS. AH YOU HAPPEN TO BE ONE OF THE TOP PRIORITIES ON THEIR LIST, AND THEY'RE TARGETING ACTUALLY, FOUR OF YOU. AH! THERE'S NO REAL REASON THAT I CAN GIVE YOU EXACTLY FOR WHY THEY WANT THE FOUR OUT OF THE FIVE OF YOU GONE, BUT I CAN TELL YOU THIS SETIA AS DUMPED $55,000. INTO THE ORANGE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT RECALL. AND THEY MAY BE WILLING TO DUMP A SIMILAR AMOUNT OF MONEY INTO THE RECALL. OF
[00:50:07]
THOSE THREE OF YOU WHO ARE UP FOR RE ELECTION IN NOVEMBER, SO THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND ATTENTION. THANK YOU, MR COHEN. NEXT WE HAVE JOHN OR JOHN QUACKING, OKAY? YOU DON'T HAVE.YOU GOT THE WRONG SPOT, JOHN. ALRIGHT QUACKENBUSH. JOHN QUACKENBUSH. THANK YOU. BOARD MEMBERS ONCE AGAIN IN ADEN. THANK YOU FOR BEING UP HERE AND SPEAKING YOUR MIND AND EVERYTHING. I UH IT'S ALWAYS NICE HEARING EVERYBODY AND WHEN STUDENTS GET CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE WITH THAT I HAVE SEVERAL THINGS. CHARTER SCHOOL ONE GOING FORWARD. I KNOW IT'S KIND OF A DONE DEAL AND GOING FORWARD, BUT BE MINDFUL OF THE WAY WE PROCESS THIS. UM THEY'RE NOT NECESSARILY BETTER. THERE ARE STUDIES THAT SHOW THAT THEY PROBABLY AVERAGE LIKE PUBLIC SCHOOLS. YOU GET 5050. YOU CAN HAVE ISSUES OF MONEY WASTE STILL AND SO KEEP THOSE IN MIND ALSO.
I KNOW OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT ACTUALLY MY NEPHEW SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS A LOT OF CHARTER SCHOOLS AND HIS SON CAN'T GO TO THE SCHOOL THAT'S THREE BLOCKS AWAY AND WALK THERE. HIS SON HAS TO GO. BE DRIVEN THREE OR FOUR MILES AWAY TO ANOTHER SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE CHARTER SCHOOL, YOU HAVE TO APPLY THE APPLICATION TYPE SCENARIO, SO I DO GET WORRIED ABOUT THE BERNARDO. FAMILIES THAT ARE NEAR THEIR, UH, LADY MENTIONED EARLIER. YOU KNOW, IT'S MY DAUGHTERS HAD CHANCE TO WALK TO ELDER OR NOT TO ELDORADO AND WAGNER. AND I THINK THOSE ARE VERY VALUABLE, UM THINGS TO DO? UH THE OTHER THING, UM PARENTS NOTIFICATION. I KNOW WE DISCUSSED THAT A WHILE AGO. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CONTINUE TO BE OPEN AND ALLOW OUR STUDENTS TO TALK TO TEACHERS. AND BE ABLE TO HAVE A SAFE PLACE SOMEPLACE TO TALK. WE DON'T KNOW EVERYBODY'S FAMILY SITUATION. AND WE DON'T KNOW HOW THAT GOES. IF THERE'S A GOOD FAMILY SITUATION, THEY DON'T NEED THE TEACHERS, AND THEY COULD USUALLY TALK TO THE PARENT. BUT IF THERE ISN'T THEN THEY NEED SOMEPLACE TO FEEL COMFORTABLE AND WE DON'T WANT THEM GOING TO THEIR FRIEND THAT SELLS THEM DRUGS OR SOMETHING ELSE LIKE THAT. WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO GO TO AN ADULT THAT CAN HELP THEM. WITH THAT, UM THE HIGH SCHOOL CALENDAR. I'M NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT'S HAPPENING. WITH THAT. I KNOW THERE'S SOME TALK ABOUT SHORTENING SEMESTER AND SO KEEP IN MIND. I DON'T KNOW. WE'VE BEEN HAVING THAT TWO WEEK BREAK FOR A LONG TIME. I DON'T THINK IT'S BEEN CAUSING ANY ISSUES WITH KIDS FAILING THEIR FINALS AT THE END OF THE SEMESTER, BUT I DO GET WORRIED IF WE'RE SHORTING SHRINKING COURSES THAT LIKE YOUR ECONOMICS AND YOUR GOVERNMENT THAT ARE FULL CEMENT 14 SEMESTER THAT WE'RE GOING TO BE REDUCING THEIR VITAL INFORMATION THAT THEY LEARN IN THAT RESPECT, AND THE LAST ONE I'LL DO A SHAMELESS PLUG. ELDORADO CHOIR IS HAVING THEIR TINSEL OR CHRISTMAS CONCERT THIS FRIDAY. UM I'M SURE YOU GUYS ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO COME AND ENJOY THAT. UM MY DAUGHTER IS DOING A COUPLE OF SOLOS AND WE HAVE ABOUT 10 SOLOISTS AND TWO DUETS THAT ARE HAPPENING THAT NIGHT. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU, JOHN. APRIL NOW IT'S YOUR TURN. NOW IT'S MY TURN. APRIL GAVRILOVIC.
THANK YOU GUYS FOR ALLOWING ME TO SPEAK. UM HONESTLY DIDN'T KNOW REALLY KNOW IF I WAS GOING TO SPEAK OR NOT, BUT I FEEL LED TO DO SO. I HAVE A LOT OF KIDS IN THIS DISTRICT. I'VE BEEN A MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY FOR A LONG TIME IN VERY INVOLVED, UM ALL OF MY CHILDREN HAVE GONE THROUGH BERNARDO. WELL, THREE HAVE FINISHED AT BERNARDO. TWO ARE CURRENTLY THERE AND ONE WILL BE THERE. UM ALL OF THEM FOLLOWED THE SAME PATH. ALL OF THEM LIVE IN THE SAME HOUSE. ALL OF THEM HAVE HAD THE SAME PARENTS EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE AND THEIR EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY THROUGH GLEN NULL, BERNARDO AND THEN ESPERANZA. UM I HAVE HAD THE BENEFIT OF GETTING TO HEAR A LOT ABOUT THE CHARTER PETITION MOVING FORWARD. I HAVE THE ADDED BENEFIT OF A LOT OF EDUCATORS. ONE IN MY FAMILY ONE PARTICULARLY WHO HAS DONE A LOT OF WORK THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY AND CHARTER SCHOOLS IN EDUCATING DISTRICTS AND EDUCATING PARENTS AND EDUCATING EDUCATORS ON THE BEST WAY TO REACH ALL OF THE STUDENTS IN YOUR CLASSROOM.
HAVING HAD VERY UNIQUE CHILDREN WITH VERY UNIQUE EXPERIENCES. I CAN TELL YOU I AM A STAY AT HOME, MOM. MY JOB IS MY KIDS. I SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH THEM. I SPENT A LOT OF TIME ON CAMPUSES.
IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK OUT THAT THEY'RE SUCCESSFUL. THAT PARTNERSHIP WITH THE TEACHERS IS SO IMPORTANT. WE LOST SO MUCH IN THE PANDEMIC. I LOVE WHAT THEY HAVE DONE WITH THE CHARTER. WHEN
[00:55:04]
MRS FISHER FIRST SPOKE TO ME ABOUT IT, I WAS THE ONE WHO SAID, I DON'T THINK THAT MY KIDS WILL LIKE COMPUTER SCIENCE IS WHAT WILL I DO? THEN SHE SAID. WELL, YOU STILL LISTEN TO ME WHEN I TALK. I SAID YES, BUT IF I'M AT ANOTHER SCHOOL, I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I MEAN. I WILL. I TALKED TO A LOT OF PEOPLE, BUT I HAD PLANNED TO MOVE MY KIDS. I SPOKE WITH EACH ONE OF THEM AS UM, I GOT MORE INFORMATION. ONE OF WHICH, WHOM IS NOT GREAT AT SCHOOL. HE'S AN EXCELLENT ATHLETES, DOCTOR TURNS THANK YOU FOR HAVING THE FOOTBALL COACHES HERE. I LOVE SEEING ATHLETICS RECOGNIZED AS WELL AS ACADEMICS. UM HE'S EXCITED FOR THIS. HE'S EXCITED FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO GET AN INDIVIDUALIZED MASTERY BASED LEARNING THAT HE CAN FEEL SUCCESSFUL. HE LOST A LOT PANDEMIC WAS HIS THIRD THROUGH 5TH 4TH GRADE YEAR. THE RECOVERY WAS FIFTH GRADE. IN SIXTH GRADE, HE FAILED 5TH AND 6TH GRADE. THEY MOVED HIM ON BELOW A 2.8 GRADE POINT GRADE POINT AVERAGE.I PULLED HIM FROM SPORTS. I WAS TOLD BY THE TEACHERS HIS REFUSAL TO CONTINUE TO DO WELL WITH BECAUSE I PULLED HIM FROM SPORTS, AND HE WAS REBELLING. I'VE ALREADY RAISED FOUR TEENAGERS. I DON'T NEED TO BE TOLD TEENAGERS WILL REBEL. I'M EXCITED FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY FOR OUR DISTRICT TO REACH EVERY STUDENT IN THE CLASSROOM. IT WILL SHAKE THINGS UP. I UNDERSTAND IT. I GET IT. I CAN GET BEHIND IT. I'M EXCITED. I'VE BEEN TALKING TO A LOT OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS SHARING WITH THEM THE LITTLE BIT. I'M LEARNING AND KNOWING AND THE BACKGROUND OF WHAT I UNDERSTAND ABOUT THE PROGRAMS ARE BRINGING IN THEY'RE GETTING EXCITED. IT'S JUST A MATTER OF THEM GETTING IT IF YOU GUYS MOVE THIS TONIGHT, IF YOU MOVE THIS THROUGH YOU WILL, IN MY OPINION FROM WHAT I KNOW OF THE COMMUNITY AND THE PEOPLE WHO WE TALKED TO YOU'RE GONNA GET A LOT OF SUPPORT. YOU'RE ACTUALLY GOING TO GET A LOT OF PARENTS WHO APPRECIATE WHAT YOU'RE DONE. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME. YOU GUYS. THANK YOU. HMM.
CAN YOU GO? 3 16.1. OKAY? UM, IF I CAN GET A MOTION. DON'T MAKE A MOTION TO ADOPT THE 2024 BOARD
[16. ACTION ITEMS - GENERAL FUNCTIONS]
OF EDUCATION MEETING SCHEDULE. I'LL SECOND. IS THERE ANY COMMENTS? OKAY I'LL DO A ROLL CALL VOTE ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, MISS BUCK. IS HE, ANDERSON? MR FRASER? HI. MR YOUNGBLOOD. I AM AN I AND OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. MOTION CARRIES 50 WITH AND I WITH OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. OKAY NOW THIS IS WHERE I'M GOING TO ASK THE BOARD FOR A MOTION TO FLIP TO MOVE TO 17.2[17. ACTION ITEMS - BUSINESS SERVICES ]
UNTIL OUR AUDITORS COME. I'LL MAKE A MOTION. WE MOVED TO 17.2. OKAY SO I WILL NEED A MOTION FOR THE 17.2. WAIT. WE NEED TO TAKE A MOTION FOR MOVING IT. AND THEN WE'LL DO A MOTION. OKAY SORRY.UM ALL THOSE IN FAVOR OF MOVING IT BY MR FRASER, I. ALRIGHT THAT CARRIED AND NOW I WILL TAKE THE MOTION FOR 17 POINT TO MAKE A MOTION. WE APPROVE THE 2022. EXCUSE ME. 2023 24 1ST INTERIM REPORT WITH THE POSITIVE CERTIFICATION. POSITIVE CERTIFICATION INDICATES THAT BASED ON CURRENT PROJECTIONS, THE DISTRICT WILL MEET ITS FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS FOR THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR AND SUBSEQUENT TWO FISCAL YEARS SECOND. I WILL GIVE THAT TO PRESIDENT YOUNGBLOOD'S MR JACKSON HAD A SECOND IN A LONG TIME. ALRIGHT, MR STEIN. I APOLOGIZE FOR THIS SWITCHING SCHEDULE. UM, I COORDINATED THE TIMING FOR OUR EDITOR. HE'S JUST PARKING RIGHT NOW. SO THE TIME I'M DONE, HE'LL BE IN HERE TO HELP US OUT WITH THAT. SO THANK YOU. GOOD EVENING. UM THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING ME TO BE ON THIS SIDE. USUALLY WHEN I DO PRESENTATIONS I LIKE TO STAND SO I APPRECIATE HAVING THIS OPPORTUNITY. TONIGHT WE'RE GOING TO GO OVER OUR 2324 1ST DINNER ROOM, SO WE ARE PERCENTER OF FINANCIAL REPORT. WE REPORT OUR FINANCIAL REPORTS OF THE BOARD TWICE. NOW WE TAKE THE BOARD FOR ADOPTION TO TAKE THE BUDGET FOR ADOPTION. THEN WE HAVE OUR FIRST INTERIM, WHICH COVERS THE TIME PERIOD THROUGH OCTOBER, 31ST.
AND THEN WE WILL BRING YOU A SECOND IN MARCH, WHICH WILL COVER THROUGH THE END OF JANUARY. SO JUST TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BE COVERING, SO WE WILL BE GOING OVER THE STATE'S ECONOMIC OUTLOOK, SO WE'LL GIVE YOU THE LATEST INFORMATION THAT WE HAVE.
[01:00:01]
WE'LL TALK ABOUT OUR CHANGES TO THE ADOPTED BUDGET PRESENT THE FIRST INTERIM NUMBERS, TALK ABOUT SOME BUDGET CHALLENGES AND THEN GO OVER THE TIMELINES AND NEXT STEPS. SO AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR WE'RE WAITING FOR THE STATE TO ISSUE THERE FOR THE GOVERNOR TO COME OUT WITH THEIR HIS JANUARY BUDGET. IN THE MEANTIME, WE HAVE THE LEGISLATIVE ANALYST'S OFFICE THAT GIVES US INFORMATION AND THEY COLLECT THAT INFORMATION FROM A VARIETY OF SOURCES. UM THEY USUALLY ISSUE A NOVEMBER FISCAL UPDATE ON NOVEMBER 15TH. WHAT HAPPENED THIS YEAR WAS THAT ALL OF OUR TAX DEADLINES MOVED TO NOVEMBER 16TH SO THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO ISSUE THAT ON TIME THEY ISSUED IT JUST LAST WEEK. ON THE SEVENTH. SO WHEN WE'RE PUTTING THIS PRESENTATION TOGETHER, WE DID NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL L YOU NUMBERS BUT THIS GIVES YOU A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND ON THE ELIO AND THEN I WILL TALK ABOUT SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE LEARNED FROM THEM. SO AS WE'VE TALKED BEFORE THE STATE'S BUDGET WHEN THEY PUT 2324 TOGETHER WAS WAS BASED ON COVERING DEFICITS WITH ONE TIME MONEY AND WITH SHIFTING COSTS AROUND SO AS SHOWN ON THE SLIDE.THERE WAS A 27 $MILLION BILLION DEFICIT IN THE STATE BUDGET THAT WAS COVERED BY SHIFTING COSTS AND, UM AND A FEW OTHER TACTICS, I WILL SAY WITH THE HOPE THAT THE REVENUES WOULD COME IN. AND WHAT WE WILL SEE ON THE NEXT SLIDE IS THAT THE YELLOW WITH THEIR FORECASTING IS THAT THE REVENUES HAVEN'T NECESSARILY COME IN THE WAY THAT THE STATUS HELPED. SO YOU SHOULD SEE A FEW LINES. UM THE PURPLE LINE IS FORECAST. THE BLUE LINE IS WHAT THE STATE WOULD NEED TO BRING IN AND REVENUES IN ORDER TO FUND THE MAY REVISION, WHICH IS WHAT THE STATES ADOPTED BUDGET WAS LARGELY BASED ON EVERYTHING IN THE THAT GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND, AND BELOW WOULD BE WHAT'S POSSIBLE UNDER ELIO FORECAST. SO WE CAN BE BETTER WE COULD BE. WE COULD BE WORSE OFF. BUT THE BUDGET WAS BASED ON A $27 BILLION DEFICIT, AND WE KEEP HEARING THAT THE REVENUES ARE COMING IN AS ON THE SCHEDULE. THAT SCHEDULE IS THE 27TH BILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT, SO THE MONEY IS COMING IN, BUT IT'S MATCHING. UM, THAT DEFICIT FACTOR. MOST IMPORTANT KEY POINTS TO TAKE OUT OF IT. STATES, SAYING DECLINING ENROLMENT. WE KNOW THAT AS WE ARE FACING. THAT, TOO, IS A DISTRICT. WE WERE GIVEN SOME REPRIEVE IN R A. D A. FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS, WE HAVE A THREE YEAR AVERAGE THE BENCH DOES IN 1920 FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. THAT HAS CREATED THIS THIS GAP BETWEEN WHAT WE'RE ACTUALLY BEING FUNDED AT AND WHAT WE'RE BEING FUNDED AND WHAT WE'RE ACTUALLY SEEING ON A LOCAL BASIS , THAT GAP IS GOING TO START SHRINKING AS THERE WAS AS A THREE YEAR AVERAGE MOVES FORWARD IN OUR ARTIFICIALLY HIGH YEARS FALL OFF. THE BIGGEST PIECE OF INFORMATION WE RECEIVED FROM FROM THE L A. OH, WAS THAT THEY WERE ESTIMATING THE COLA TO BE ABOUT 1% HAVE SINCE REVISED THAT TO BE 1.27% FOR NEXT YEAR. UM THE STATE PREVIOUSLY FORECASTING OUR CURRENT DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE FORECAST FOR NEXT YEAR'S 3.94. THAT'S ROUGHLY A DIFFERENCE OF ABOUT $8 MILLION LESS LCF FUNDING LESS NEXT YEAR FOR CENTURIES OR MILLENNIA. UNIFIED IF IT COMES TO THAT. IT'S JUST THE ELLOS ESTIMATE.
THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE IS THE FINAL ARBITER OF WHAT WE'RE BEING FUNDED AT. AND SO WE NEED TO WAIT TILL JANUARY BEFORE WE CAN REALLY PLUGGED THAT INTO THE BUDGET AND MAKE THAT OFFICIAL SO OUR FIRST DINNER IN WHICH YOU'LL SEE THE NUMBERS ARE ALL BASED ON DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE, BECAUSE WE'RE REQUIRED TO DO THAT. IN ORDER TO DO THE FINANCIAL REPORT. AS A QUICK REVIEW. SO UM , LIKE I MENTIONED FIRST INTERIM COVERS THROUGH FROM 71 THROUGH OCTOBER, 31ST. WE BRING IT TWICE , SO WE'LL BRING IT AGAIN LATER, THE DISTRICT OR THE BOARD WILL CERTIFY ITSELF AS POSITIVE WHETHER QUALIFIED WHETHER WERE NEGATIVE AS BUDGET WE'LL GET TO THAT RECOMMENDATION AND A COUPLE OF SLIDES. BUT THAT'S WHAT WE'RE DOING RIGHT NOW. SO TO GIVE YOU AN AGEIST OVERVIEW OF OUR WHAT WE INCLUDE IN THE MULTI YEAR PROJECTIONS, SO WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING TO YEARS OUT. WE HAVE TO CERTIFY THAT WE'RE ABLE TO PAY THE BILLS OR FUND OUR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOR THIS YEAR. AND THEN TWO YEARS AFTER THAT. AND SO WHAT YOU'LL SEE ON THE SLIDE IS THAT WE HAVE A STATUE OF COLA THAT'S BASED ON THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE. WE'RE STILL NEGOTIATING FOR COMPENSATION, SO THAT'S REFLECTED THERE. YOU'LL SEE OUR ENROLLMENT NUMBERS WERE PROJECTING STILL 404 100 STUDENT LOSS EVERY YEAR MOVING FORWARD AND WE'LL TALK ABOUT WHERE WE ENDED UP THIS YEAR. YOUR SECOND AND YOU CRL CFF PROJECTIONS. BASED ON THE NUMBERS 8.98. I'M SORRY 8.2 TO 3.94 AND 3.29. WHAT YOU'LL NOTICE IS A RELATIVELY FLAT. WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF
[01:05:03]
GROWTH IN OUR L C. F F. A LOT OF THAT HAS TO DO OR ACTUALLY ALL OF IT HAS TO DO WITH OUR DECLINING ENROLLMENT AND OUR ARE LOWER THAN LOWER THAN HISTORICAL AVERAGE FOR ATTENDANCE, WHICH IS ABOUT 93.5. FOR ON THE ENROLLMENT FRONT, SO WE HAVE DROPPED SINCE 2016 17 2007 OR 69 STUDENTS AND ENROLLMENT. UM, WITH THE AVERAGE IS ABOUT 403 96 . THIS YEAR. WE EXPERIENCE A LITTLE BIT LESS SO WE ONLY LOST 288 STUDENTS. SO THAT THAT'S FANTASTIC NEWS, RIGHT? BUT WE'RE STILL WE'RE STILL LOSING KIDS. AND SO ALL OF THAT AFFECTS OUR BOTTOM LINE. YES QUICK QUESTION, OF COURSE, BECAUSE THE STATE IN GENERAL HAS DECLINING ENROLLMENT . THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF DISCUSSION ON 88 VERSUS ENROLLMENT AND POTENTIALLY HAVING YOU KNOW THAT CHANGE IN OUR BUDGETING IS HAS THERE BEEN ANY MORE RECENT DISCUSSION OR ANY PUSH TOWARD THAT ANY FURTHER TO GO TO ENROLLMENT VERSUS A D. A. THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION, AND IT'S STILL A DISCUSSION BEING IT'S TAKING PLACE IN THE IN THE LEGISLATURE. THEY ESTIMATE. I WANT TO SAVE THE LAST ESTIMATE I HEARD JUST DO THAT SWITCH WAS 6 TO $8 BILLION. IT WOULD COST THE STATE TWO TO SHIFT US TO AN ENROLLMENT BASED AH FUNDING SYSTEM. QUITE HONESTLY, THE STATE CAN'T AFFORD THAT RIGHT NOW, AND THAT'S WHY THEY DIDN'T MOVE IT FORWARD LAST YEAR. THE SO I AND I FORGOT THE NUMBER OF EDUCATION SECTIONS THAT NEED TO BE CHANGED IF WE GO DOWN THAT ROUTE, BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS BASED ON 88, RIGHT? EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE WE CALCULATE. UM BUT IT'S HUGE. IT'S A HUGE UNDERTAKING TO DO THAT, UM, ONE OF THE SUGGESTIONS THAT WE'VE BEEN MAKING OR THAT THROUGH OUR PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS HAVE BEEN MAKING ABOUT IT IS THAT THE STATE HAS BEEN GIVING MORE AND MORE REASONS FOR STUDENT ABSENCES. BUT ALSO NOT. THEY'RE CHARGING DISTRICTS FOR THAT, SO THEY'RE NOT GIVING US CREDIT IN THE A. D A FOR THOSE ABSENCES. AH, OUR SUGGESTION HAS BEEN WELL. IF YOU'RE GOING TO ALLOW IT, THEN DON'T PENALIZE DISTRICTS FOR THOSE ABSENCES, SO THINGS LIKE MENTAL HEALTH DAYS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. MAYBE IF THE STATE BELIEVES IT'S IMPORTANT AND WE ALSO BELIEVE IT'S IMPORTANT SCHOOL DISTRICT SHOULDN'T BE PENALIZED FOR THAT, BECAUSE WE STILL HAVE TO HAVE TEACHERS IN CLASSROOMS. WE STILL HAVE TO HAVE THOSE SERVICES AVAILABLE. IF THAT STUDENT SHOWS UP SO THAT'S THE OTHER AVENUE OF IT IS. YOU CAN GO ENROLLMENT BASE, OR WE CAN LOOK AT WAYS OF PLUGGING THE HOLES IN 88 THAT IT REALLY SOME STATE POLICIES ARE CREATING ON THAT SIDE. DON'T THAT WAS A VERY LONG ANSWER. I APOLOGIZE. BUT A PASSIONATE ABOUT IT AS YOU CAN TELL. SO WHAT YOU SEE, HERE IS OUR MULTI YEAR PROJECTIONS. THIS THE DISTRICT IS BASED ON THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE IS ESTIMATES. VERY HEALTHY, RIGHT? WE HAVE OUR ENDING. BALANCE IS INCREASING. A LOT OF THAT HAS TO DO WITH THE GREAT WORK THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT DIFFERENT AREAS TO MAKE SURE WE'RE CONTROLLING EXPENDITURES. UM SO DESPITE HAVING FLAT FUNDING, WE STILL HAVE A HEALTHY BOTTOM LINE. AGAIN THIS ASSUMES THAT WE HAVE A 3.94% NEXT YEAR, AND THEN WE HAVE A 3.29, WHICH WE'RE HEARING THAT THAT'S THAT'S POTENTIALLY, UM NOT GONNA HAPPEN, SO WE NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR THAT. THE COMPONENTS ARE FOR ENDING FUND BALANCES SHOWN HERE SO AT THE END OF THE YEAR, WE'RE PROJECTING ENDING FUND BALANCE OF $71.3 MILLION IN OUR UNRESTRICTED AND ABOUT 50 MILLION IN ARE RESTRICTED. THAT WE CAN SEE THAT WE'VE GOT COMMITTED AND CONTINGENCY RESERVES AS OUTLINED BY BOARD POLICY BELOW. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE COMMITTED OURSELVES TO IS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE BRING BACK ALL OF THE FUNDS INCLUDED IN THE BUDGET AT EVERY CYCLE. UM WHAT YOU SEE, HERE ARE ALL OF THE FUNDS. WE TALKED ABOUT LAST LAST MEETING DURING THE DURING OUR STUDY SESSION. UM AND YOU'VE GOT A BEGINNING AND END FUND BALANCE FOR THAT, BUT I WANTED TO POINT OUT ABOUT THIS IS THAT, UM, OUR FIRST CENTRUM COVERS THROUGH 1031. WE DIDN'T HAVE OUR MEETING UNTIL NOVEMBER. SO ALL OF THE EXPENDITURES THAT WE TALKED ABOUT LAST MEETING AREN'T IN THIS BUDGET BECAUSE THIS COVERS BEFORE WE HAD A CHANCE TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT IT. IN SECOND INTERIM, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THESE. THE PROJECTED EXPENDITURES CHANGED DRASTICALLY BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO PUT IN EVERYTHING WE TALKED ABOUT AT OUR LAST MEETING, SO NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE AT THE NEXT ITERATION. THE BALANCES WILL GO DOWN. YES, FOR THE EXPENDITURES WILL GO UP RIGHT SO BOTH SIDES.SO THE FIRST CENTER ROOM AND I'VE NEGLECTED TO MENTION THAT YOU'VE GOT THE BUDGET BOOK.
EVERYTHING WAS INCLUDED. YES, THAT'S FINE. I JUST WANT TO ASK ONE QUICK QUESTION. SO USUALLY, UM, THE BASELINE OR THE BOTTOM LINE REQUIREMENT IS 3% FOR, UM, ECONOMIC UNCERTAINTY WE HAVE HERE, 5% WHAT IS THE DISTRICT OR BOARD APPROVED PERCENT THAT WE THAT WE HOLD AS A DISTRICT. IT'S
[01:10:05]
5% WE ALSO HAVE THESE OTHER COMMITMENTS THAT ARE ARE MINIMUM IS 5. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.APPRECIATE THAT. OKAY? UM SO WHAT WE'VE GOT ON THIS SLIDE, SO AS MENTIONED, AND I WAS SAYING, WE THE BUDGET, BUT EVERYTHING'S BEEN PUBLISHED. IT'S AVAILABLE FOR CONSUMPTION FOR IF ANYBODY'S CURIOUS ABOUT THE FULL BUDGET, WORK UP WHAT WE'RE ASKING FOR, AND WHAT WE NEED THE BORDER TO DO IS TO ISSUE EIGHT CERTIFICATION FOR THEIR CERTIFIED THAT WE ARE POSITIVE.
THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO RECOMMEND, WHICH MEANS WE'RE ABLE TO MEET OUR OBLIGATIONS FOR THIS YEAR AND IN THE COMING TWO YEARS, WHICH HOPEFULLY BASED ON THE INFORMATION WE PROVIDED CONFIRMS THAT AND SO WE WOULD BE RECOMMENDING A POSITIVE CERTIFICATION. UM, WE'LL DO REAL QUICK. I KNOW. I CHANGED THE TITLE ON SLIDE OTHER STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDING BECAUSE, AS WE ARE SHIFTING FURTHER AWAY FROM COVID 19, THAT FINDING IS DRYING UP. SO UM, WHAT WE'VE DONE WITH THE OTHER STATE FUNDING SLIDE IS WE'VE INCLUDED ITEMS THAT ARE STILL ACTIVE. SO WE HAVE A LOT OF THE OF THE PANDEMIC FUNDING THAT HAS ALREADY EXPIRED. SO RATHER THAN KEEP BRINGING IT BACK WITH ZERO IN THE IN THERE, WE REMOVE THEM FROM THE SLIDE BECAUSE IT'S DONE. THESE ARE CURRENT STATE FUNDS THAT ARE COMING TO THE DISTRICT THAT WE HAVE THAT ARE WE'RE WORKING ON.
I KNOW THAT WE'VE HAD DISCUSSIONS ABOUT THE ARTS, MUSIC AND INSTRUCTION MATERIALS BLOCK GRANT THE E L O THE SORRY THE EXTENDED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES BLOCK GRANT LEARNING RECOVERY. PROP 98 IS OUR NEW ONE RIGHT? AND SO WE FINALLY RECEIVED THE FUNDING FOR THAT WE WILL BE WORKING WITH OUR SITES TO COME UP WITH PLANS THAT WILL THEN BE SHARED WITH THE BOARD SOON SO THAT WE CAN START USING THAT FUNDING AS WELL. IN THE LAST BUT NOT LEAST WITH THE FUNDING OR FEDERAL COVID FUNDS. WE STILL HAVE S R THREE. AND THESE FUNDS. WE ALREADY HAVE PLANS TO SPEND THE LOT OF IT BY THE DEADLINE OF SEPTEMBER 2024. AND SO ONCE THAT'S DONE THEN WE WILL THE SLIDE WILL NO LONGER BE USEFUL. SO. SO UM, BUDGET CHALLENGES REAL QUICK, SO MOVING FORWARD. WE ARE LOOKING AT POTENTIALLY PROJECTED LOWER COLA'S, BUT WE NEED TO, OF COURSE, GET THE STATES, UM INPUT ON THAT, UM BUT WE HAVE THE DATA SO FAR. WE'RE LOOKING AT DECLINING ENROLLMENT. OF COURSE, AS YOU KNOW, OUR ATTENDANTS STILL REMAINS PRETTY LOW LIKE WE NEED TO. WE NEED TO BUMP THAT UP. THAT WOULD VERY MUCH HELP US OUT. UM OUR HEALTH AND WELFARE PREMIUMS WILL CONTINUE TO RISE BECAUSE THAT'S THAT'S A THAT'S A GIVEN STEP IN COLUMN ADJUSTMENTS AND PERSONS STAIRS, SO THOSE ARE ARE COMMON THEMES THERE. AND THIS SLIDE MOVED AROUND A LITTLE BIT, BUT IT'S BASICALLY SHOWS OUR REVENUE VERSUS ARE ARE STANDING COSTS OR STEP IN COLUMN, HEALTH AND WELFARE STIRS AND PERS. UM, IT'S SOME OF THE BLOCKS MOVED AROUND, BUT WHAT IT'S WHAT IT'S ATTEMPTING TO SHOW IS THAT WHILE WE HAD MORE REVENUE THAN EXPENDITURES THIS YEAR, AT LEAST WHAT WE'RE PROJECTING, WE ARE PROJECTING A VERY LOW ACTUALLY, NO INCREASED THE BASE NEXT YEAR, AND OUR COSTS WILL OUTWEIGH OUR REVENUES FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS, EVEN WITH THE STATE'S PROJECTIONS RIGHT NOW, BECAUSE OF OUR DECLINING ENROLLMENT, AND BECAUSE OF OUR LOWER ATTENDANCE WERE NOT FUNDED AT 3.94. EVEN IF THEY GAVE IT TO US. IT WOULD BE AS YOUR PERCENT. SO WITH THAT, JUST REAL QUICK BUDGET TIMELINES. I DIDN'T KNOW, I ADDED. MOVEMENT ON THAT. THAT'S EXCITING. UM SO WE'RE DOING FOR CINNAMON RIGHT NOW, UM, IF I'M SURE WE TALKED ABOUT IT, BUT WE WILL HAVE A METEOR EL. BY MARCH 15TH FOR YOUR APPROVAL AND THEY WILL GET WILL BE AN L CAPTAIN BUDGET SEASON AGAIN, SO WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THAT AND WE WILL BE HAVING THOSE HEARINGS IN JUNE. SO BEFORE I LEAVE, I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR THE TIME. BUT I ALSO WANT TO THANK MY TEAM FOR BEING HERE AND FOR PUTTING ALL THIS INFORMATION TOGETHER. THEY ARE THE ONES THAT AGAIN THEY DO ALL THE WORK AND I GET TO STAND UP HERE AND READ SLIDES AND ANSWER QUESTIONS. AND THEY'RE AN AMAZING GROUP. I'M LUCKY TO WORK WITH THEM. SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH. YES. BEFORE YOU GO NUMBER 13 IS THE OTHER DISTRICT FUNDS. AND WHAT I NOTICED WAS CHILD DEVELOPMENT ARE BEGINNING. FUN BALANCE IS ABOUT $3.6 MILLION AND ARE ENDING FUND BALANCE IS ABOUT $5.6 MILLION. SO I AM INTERESTED IN, UM MAYBE HAVING SOME DISCUSSION, OR, UM, ON DOWN THE LINE ABOUT SHIFTING SOME OF THAT. UM FROM OUR ENDING FUND BALANCE, SO IT'S NOT SO LARGE AND SEEING IF IT CAN BE APPLIED TOWARDS SOME OF OUR CHILDCARE COSTS THAT WOULD BE TYPICALLY FOR MAYBE OUR TITLE, ONE SCHOOLS OR LOW INCOME FAMILIES. APPRECIATE THAT. WE'LL DEFINITELY TAKE A LOOK AT THAT. WHAT'S MISSING FROM THE PROJECTED EXPENDITURES ARE THE, UM, THE NEW PORTABLES THAT ARE LANDING TO EXPAND THAT PROGRAM AND SO THAT, ACTUALLY, IT EATS
[01:15:07]
UP A LOT OF THAT. THAT ENDING FUND BALANCE TO EXPAND THE PROGRAM THIS COMING YEAR ARE THOSE ALREADY IN THE PROJECTED EXPENDITURES. NO SO THAT'S WHAT WE TALKED ABOUT LAST, SO YOU'LL SEE THAT AT THAT WILL COME BECAUSE IT'S THE SECOND ENTER, OKAY? THANK YOU. HMM. ANY OTHER COMMENTS. QUESTIONS. I GOT ONE. YES DOT SO IN REGARDS TO DECLINING ENROLLMENT, THE WITH THE NEW PRESCHOOLS. OPENING DO WE HAVE A CALCULATION THAT IT'S STILL EARLY? WHAT THE IMPACT OF THAT COULD BE POTENTIALLY, I MEAN, I KNOW IT'S IT WOULD BE ALL SPECULATION AT THIS POINT, BUT HAVE WE LOOKED INTO THAT? HONESTLY NO. WE'VE BEEN DOING A LOT OF GREAT WORK THROUGH OUR FRIEND GEORGE, UM, HERE AT THE DISTRICT. AND WHAT WE DON'T KNOW IS THE CONVERSION RATE OF OUR PRESCHOOL KIDS TO TWO STUDENTS THAT STAY SO BUT WE WILL BE WATCHING THAT AND WE WILL DEFINITELY GET THAT STATISTICS SO THAT WE CAN USE THAT IN OUR FORECASTING. OKAY SO THAT THAT ISN'T TAKING INTO ACCOUNT. THAT'S WHAT I WAS WONDERING. NO, WE CAN'T AT THIS TIME BECAUSE IT'S TOO EARLY TO NEW. YES YES, BUT BUT WHAT WE DO KNOW IS THAT WE ARE PROJECTING TO DECLINE IT ABOUT 400 STUDENTS A YEAR. AND I BELIEVE THIS YEAR WE ONLY DECLINED BY ABOUT 250. IS THAT RIGHT TO 80 TO 88 SO WE'RE BOOM. WE'RE POSITIVE TO WHERE WE PROJECTED WE'RE CHIPPING AWAY.THAT'S GOOD. I JUST WANTED TO ADD ON BEHALF OF DR LOPEZ THAT WE DO IN EXPANDED LEARNING USER ELOPED FUNDS TO PROVIDE A FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO R, AND DUPLICATED STUDENTS IN THE EXPANDED LEARNING PROGRAM. SO WE ARE USING OUR FUNDS FOR THAT. THANK YOU. I LOVE TO HEAR THAT.
PERFECT. THANK YOU. MR YOUNGBLOOD ANYTHING. NOPE ALRIGHT. WE'LL GO FOR A VOTE ROLL CALL VOTE. MISS BUCK. MISS UNDERSTAND? I MR FRASER. I, MR YOUNG BLOOD. I AM AN EYE. AND AIDEN. I. ALRIGHT MOTION CARRIES 50 WITH A VOTE FROM OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. SO NOW I THINK WE CAN RETURN TO 17.1 BECAUSE I BELIEVE HE HAS ARRIVED. SO I WILL ASK FOR A MOTION FOR 17.1.
I'LL MAKE A MOTION. WE ACCEPT THE ANNUAL INDEPENDENT AUDIT REPORT. FOR THE 2022 23 FISCAL YEAR, MR JEFF, NIAGARA PARTNER WITH THE AUDIT FIRM NEGRO AND NEGRO PC WILL SHARE THE RESULTS OF THE OTTAWA THE BOARD. I SECOND THANK YOU. WELCOME. THANK YOU. USUALLY I DO AN INTRO. SO UM, AS YOU'RE AS YOU'RE AWARE, BASED ON THE REQUIREMENTS OF EDUCATION CODE WERE REQUIRED.
THE DISTRICT IS REQUIRED TO HAVE AN ANNUAL AUDIT PERFORMED EACH YEAR BY AN INDEPENDENT AUDIT FIRM. UM AND THEN THE REPORT PRESENTED TO THE BOARD FOR YOUR APPROVAL. WE HAVE TO DO THAT BY JANUARY, 31ST. LUCKILY THIS YEAR WE WERE COMING IN A LITTLE EARLIER OR BACK TO WHERE WE WERE BEFORE. UM WITH THAT. IT'S MY PLEASURE TO INTRODUCE MR JEFF NEGRO FROM OUR AUDIT FIRM MIGRON NEGRO, WHO WILL BE SHARING THE RESULTS OF THE 2223 ANNUAL FINANCIAL AUDIT. UM MR NEGRO IS A CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANT AND PARTNER WITH THIS FIRM HE'S BEEN PRACTICING FOR OVER 24 YEARS AND SPECIALIZES IN THE AUDIT AND ACCOUNTING REQUIREMENTS FOR K 12 SCHOOL DISTRICTS. THANK YOU. AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR TO YOU AND YOUR STAFF ARE WORKING ON THE ON THE AUDIT. YOU DID IT VERY PROFESSIONALLY AND WE ALWAYS APPRECIATE YOUR SERVICE.
ALTERNATE OVER TO YOU. THANK YOU AND ONE MINOR CORRECTION YOU MENTIONED. I'VE BEEN PRACTICING FOR 24 YEARS. THAT TERM ALWAYS SOUNDS INTERESTING. LIKE YOU'RE JUST PRACTICING, YOU KNOW, LIKE YOU DON'T QUITE HAVE IT YET, BUT I ACTUALLY HAVE ACTUALLY HAD THE FIRM FOR 24 YEARS, BUT BEFORE THAT I WAS DOING IT FOR NINE. SO IT'S 33 AND THAT REALLY HITS HARD WHEN I THINK ABOUT THAT.
BUT THANK YOU. UM THIS IS BECOMING AN ANNUAL TRADITION. I THINK AH, JUST BRIEFLY. AND FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE AUDIT PROCESS. UM THIS IS A YEAR LONG PROCESS. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT JUST HAPPENS. REALLY QUICKLY. IT'S UM IN FACT, WE'RE ALREADY STARTING TO PLAN.
NEXT YEAR'S AUDITS. UM YOU KNOW, WE DO. A LOT OF WORK OUT AT THE SCHOOL SITES WILL GO OUT TO A SAMPLE OF YOUR SCHOOLS AND LOOK AT THE ATTENDANCE ACCOUNTING PROCEDURES BECAUSE AS YOU BROUGHT UP YOUR FUNDED ON A D, A. SO THE STATE'S VERY KEENLY INTERESTED IN MAKING SURE THAT YOU'RE TRACKING 88 PROPERLY. UM WE GO OUT TO SOME OF THOSE, UH TO THE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS AND LOOK AT THEIR HSB ACCOUNTING PROCEDURES AS WELL. AND THEN, UM, WE'VE COME OUT TO THE DISTRICT FOR A WEEK IN THE SPRING AND PERFORM WHAT WE CALL THE INTERIM AUDIT, SO WE'RE LOOKING A LOT OF INTERNAL PROCESSES AND CONTROLS AT THAT POINT, BECAUSE THERE'S NO
[01:20:03]
NUMBERS YET TO AUDIT AND THEN WE COME BACK IN THE FALL AND DO THE WRAP UP BASICALLY, AND I WILL SAY THAT IN THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND CONTINUING INTO THE NEXT FEW YEARS. A LOT MORE OF THE AUDIT IS REALLY ON THE COMPLIANCE SIDE. AS OPPOSED TO FINANCIAL, SO THE FINANCIAL PIECE IS ALWAYS THERE, AUDITING THE NUMBERS AND WHATNOT, CHECKS AND BALANCES. BUT THERE'S SO MUCH MORE COMPLIANCE AND ESPECIALLY A LOT OF THESE PROGRAMS. HE WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT ALL THOSE DOLLARS OF STATES THROWING OUT YOU GUESS WHAT? THERE'S STRINGS ATTACHED TO ALL OF THEM. THERE'S LITTLE MINDS, LITTLE LANDMINES HERE AND THERE. IF YOU DO THIS WRONG, BOOM, YOU'RE GOING TO HAVE TO GET PENALIZED AND GIVE ALL THE MONEY BACK. SO WE'RE GOOD. WE GOT PUT IN CHARGE OF AUDITING ALL THAT, SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT. ANYWAY BACK TO THE AUDIT REPORT. SO HERE WE ARE, AT THE END OF ALL THAT WE PRESENT THIS REPORT TO YOU, UM, KIND OF THE SUM OF ALL OF THE WORK THAT WAS DONE FOR THE YEAR. AND WHAT DOES IT MEAN? THE AUDITOR GIVES AN OPINION ON YOUR FINANCIAL STATEMENTS, AND THAT'S THE PRIME OBJECTIVE OF THE AUDIT. THE AUDITOR WILL TELL YOU IF THEY IN THEIR OPINION IF THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS COMPLY WITH GENERALLY ACCEPTED ACCOUNTING PRINCIPLES OR NOT, AND IN THIS AUDIT, WE'RE GIVING WHAT WE CALL AN UNMODIFIED OPINION, WHICH IS OUR FANCY WAY OF SAYING EVERYTHING'S GOOD. OKAY SO TAKES US THREE PAGES TO SAY THAT, BUT THAT'S THAT'S OUR PROFESSION FOR YOU. I'M NOT GOING TO GO THROUGH THE WHOLE REPORT. BUT I WOULD JUST TELL YOU THERE'S DIFFERENT SECTIONS IN THE REPORT THAT REALLY HAVEN'T CHANGED MUCH YEAR OVER YEAR. UM EVENTUALLY THERE'S A LOT OF INFORMATION IN HERE MORE THAN YOU COULD POSSIBLY WANT OR NEED. BUT IF YOU'RE REALLY INTO THE NUMBERS, IT'S ALL IN THERE. BUT RIGHT AFTER OUR OPINION, THERE'S A SECTION CALLED MANAGEMENT'S DISCUSSION AND ANALYSIS AND ALWAYS REFER PEOPLE TO THAT. IF YOU'RE NOT A NUMBERS PERSON, YOU JUST KIND OF WANT TO GET AN OVERVIEW. THAT'S A SECTION YOU CAN LOOK THROUGH AND KIND OF GET A TASTE OF WHAT'S GOING ON IN THE AUDIT. UM I THINK THE THING THAT MOST PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW IS IN THE BACK OF THE REPORT THE FINDINGS RIGHT PEOPLE ALWAYS. IT'S KIND OF LIKE PEOPLE VIEW THAT AS A REPORT CARD, HOW DID WE DO? UM THERE WERE A FEW FINDINGS THIS YEAR. NOTHING IN REGARDS TO FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING, OR THE FINANCIAL REPORTING OR THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS OR INTERNAL CONTROLS. NOTHING RELATED TO ANY OF THE FEDERAL PROGRAMS THAT WE AUDIT BECAUSE GOSH KNOWS WE SURE AUDIT A LOT OF FEDERAL DOLLARS. UH PERSONALLY, I'LL BE GLAD TO SEE THAT ESTHER MONEY GOING AWAY BECAUSE WOW. UM BUT THERE WERE SOME THINGS IN IN SO THE SCHOOL SAFETY PLANS. THERE'S A FINDING BECAUSE THE ED CODE REQUIRES THAT THOSE PLANS BE APPROVED AND ADOPTED EVERY YEAR BY MARCH, 1ST AND WE FOUND A COUPLE THAT WERE NOT APPROVED UNTIL AFTER THE MARCH 1ST DEADLINE. THERE'S NO FINANCIAL PENALTY ASSOCIATED WITH THAT. IT'S JUST MERELY A GET IT RIGHT NEXT TIME KIND OF A FINDING. THERE'S ONE RELATED TO ATTENDANCE. ACCOUNTING UM THAT ONE IS. PERSONALLY VERY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE THE DISTRICT NOTED THE ERROR BUT WAS UNABLE TO CORRECT IT BECAUSE THE STATE CLOSED THE FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING SYSTEM A REPORTING SYSTEM SO THAT YOU COULDN'T GO INTO THE STATE SOFTWARE AND EDIT THE CHANGES, WHICH IS WHAT USED TO HAPPEN IN PRIOR YEARS, BUT BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DO THAT. WE HAVE TO REPORT IT IN THE AUDIT IS A FINDING. I THINK THE STATE KIND OF GOT TIRED OF PEOPLE REVISING SO MUCH AND SO THEY SHUT IT DOWN SO THAT THEY CAN CONTROL WHEN YOU MAKE REVISIONS, SO I PUT A KIND OF FORCE US INTO PUTTING IT IN THE AUDIT REPORT, SO AH, AND THEN THE LAST ONE HAS TO DO WITH, UM, ACCOUNTING FOR STUDENTS, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT ARE TAKING COLLEGE COURSES, AND THERE'S SOME THE REQUIREMENT THAT THEY ATTEND AT LEAST 180 MINUTES OF REGULAR CLASSROOM BEFORE THEY GO TO THE WE FOUND A COUPLE OF EXCEPTIONS THERE SO NOTHING REALLY FINANCIAL SIGNIFICANTLY THERE. BUT AGAIN, THE STATE IS PUTTING MORE AND MORE LITTLE MANY LANDMINES AROUND THERE FOR US TO LOOK AT SO OVERALL, I THINK THAT'S FAIRLY POSITIVE. UM I THINK THIS IS AN AUDIT TO BE PROUD OF. UM, BUT I'D BE HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE. ANY QUESTIONS? I JUST HAD A QUESTION REGARDING ACCESS TO ANY OF OUR INFORMATION. UM, I ASK IT EVERY YEAR JUST TO ENSURE THAT YOU KNOW YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TELL US, UM HAVE DID YOU, UM ENCOUNTER ANY DELAYS OR PROBLEMS WORKING WITH STAFF TO GET THE INFORMATION YOU NEEDED FOR THE AUDIT. NO IN FACT , THIS DISTRICT IS ALWAYS ONE OF THE EASIER ONES TO GET INFORMATION FROM AH, WE HAVE A PORTAL. THAT WE SET UP WITH THE CLIENTS SO THEY CAN START UPLOADING DOCUMENTATION PRIOR TO OUR COMING OUT, AND SO THERE ACTUALLY ONE OF OUR BEST USERS OF THAT SYSTEM, SO THEY'RE GREAT . THANK YOU TO HEAR. WE'RE GLAD[01:25:04]
TO HEAR THAT. I JUST WANTED TO THANK YOU AND ALL BUSINESS SERVICES FOR ALL THEIR HARD WORK ON. THIS WAS EXCITING, READ AND. AND I DIDN'T KNOW THAT A LOT OF HOURS GO INTO IT. AND SO I'M JUST UM, GRATEFUL FOR EVERYBODY. BUT I DO HAVE ONE QUESTION ON THE FINE DEAN FOR ATTENDANCE, ACCOUNTING. UM YOU YOU MAKE A RECOMMENDATION THAT THE DISTRICT DEVELOPED POLICIES AND PROCEDURES AND IMPLEMENT CONTROLS TO ENSURE THAT THE ATTENDANCES RECORDED PROPERLY.WHAT KIND? WHAT SUGGESTIONS WOULD YOU GIVE? I KNOW WE HAVE TO BOARD POLICIES ON THAT, UM 5113. 5115 WHAT KIND OF LANGUAGE COULD WE ADD? OR PUT IN PLACE TO BETTER IMPROVE THAT? YEAH WELL, I'LL CONFESS GETTING THE STATE TO KEEP THEIR WINDOWS OPEN. CONFESS THAT RECOMMENDATIONS A LITTLE BIT OF A BOILERPLATE LANGUAGE, BECAUSE, UM, OBVIOUSLY . THERE ARE CERTAIN THINGS THAT ARE OUT OF YOUR CONTROL. BUT WHEN WE SAY, YOU KNOW, IMPLEMENT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES TO DOUBLE, YOU KNOW, IT'S REALLY JUST ABOUT CHECKING AND DOUBLE CHECKING AND A LOT OF THE INFORMATION. AND WHAT HAPPENS WITH A LOT OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS AS WELL? IS YOUR OWN SCHOOL DATA IS FINE, BUT THEN YOU GET A LOT OF A D A THAT YOU HAVE TO REPORT FROM NON PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND YOU KNOW, YOU COULD HAVE EVERYTHING DONE AND SUBMITTED AND THEN THE NON PUBLIC SCHOOL REACHES OUT AND PROVIDES YOU WITH REVISED REPORTS AND SAYS, OH, BY THE WAY, HERE'S A DIFFERENT 80 A REPORT AND SO IT CAUSES REVISIONS, SO NOT MUCH YOU CAN DO WHEN IT COMES TO THINGS LIKE THAT. BUT AGAIN, IT'S JUST REALLY A MATTER OF MAKING SURE THAT EVERYBODY'S YOU KNOW, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO A D A, BECAUSE IT'S SO IMPORTANT THAT THERE'S JUST DOUBLE CHECKS.
AND THINGS LIKE THAT, SO. LOTS OF REDUNDANCY, THEN THAT'S WHAT YOUR RECOMMENDATION WOULD BE PRETTY MUCH. THANK YOU, TOO CAREFUL WITH A D A TODD. DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? UH NO MORE OF A STATEMENT WHEN YOU'RE IN A ROOM, AND SOMEBODY SAYS THEY'RE EXCITED ABOUT AN AUDIT, LIKE YOU KNOW, YOU'VE HIRED THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO DO THAT, SO, YEAH, IT LOOKS GOOD. ALL THE OPINION READS WELL, SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH, AND I'M GLAD THAT, UM THERE'S NO SIGNIFICANT ANYTHING THAT'S GREAT. ALL RIGHT. WELL, THANK YOU VERY MUCH. ALRIGHT. THANK YOU. ALL RIGHT, SO WE HAVE A MOTION TO ACCEPT THE INDEPENDENT AUDIT. UM, ROLL COVERED, PLEASE. MISS ANDERSON.
I MR FRASER, I MR YOUNG WOULD I AND AIDEN. 50 CARRIES WITH ON I'VE FROM OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. ALRIGHT, SO MOVING ON TO 17.3. I NEED A MOTION, PLEASE. I'LL MAKE A MOTION. WE ADOPT RECOMMENDATION AND STAFF REPORT TO GRANT WITH CONDITIONS. THE ORANGE COUNTY SCHOOL OF COMPUTER SCIENCE PETITION TO ESTABLISH A DISTRICT AFFILIATED CONVERSION CHARTER SCHOOL SERVING GRADES SEVEN AND EIGHT FOR A FIVE YEAR TERM. BEGINNING JULY 1 2024 AND ADOPT REGULAR RECOMMENDED FACTUAL FINDINGS AND STAFF REPORT AS BASIS FOR GRANTING CHARTER WITH CONDITIONS. SECOND.
ALRIGHT I HAVE A MOTION BY MISS BUCK SECOND BY MR YOUNG BLOOD DOCTOR TURNESS. AT THIS TIME STAFF RECOMMENDS A PRAVEEN UM, THE ORANGE COUNTY SCHOOL OF COMPUTER SCIENCE. YEAH. BERNARDO YORBA. UM, AND OUR REPORT IS, UM PRESENTED TO THE BOARD. OKAY THANK YOU. DOES OUR BOARD HAVE ANY COMMENTS? I HAVE QUESTIONS. ARE WE ABLE TO ASK DR FISHER QUESTIONS YES. IS HERE IN THE AUDIENCE? WOULD YOU LIKE TO COME UP TO THE PODIUM? TABLE A FEW QUESTIONS FOR STAFF AND A FEW QUESTIONS FOR YOU. UM SO, UH, I'LL KIND OF GO BACK AND FORTH SO YOU CAN TRY MIN.
WHOEVER WHOEVER KNOWS, UM, SO WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT THIS CHARTER PETITION VERSUS OTHER CHARTER PETITIONS. HOW DO YOU ENSURE THAT BECAUSE IT'S ART CONVERSION CHARTER THAT IT'S NOT AN BUT THAT IT'S AN UNBIASED VIEW. AH STAFF USED THE SAME TEMPLATE WE USE TO EVALUATE ALL CHARTERS. GREAT. THANK YOU. UM. AND THEN THE REVIEW PROCESS. UM HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE WHO'S
[01:30:05]
INVOLVED AND WHAT KIND OF STEPS HAPPENED. SO ALL DEPARTMENTS, UM , WE LOOKED AT THE FINANCIALS.WE LOOK AT THE, UM, THE CURRICULUM WE LOOK AT UM, THE ENROLLMENT, THE ATTENDANCE. SO, UM. WE CAN GET BACK TO THE BOARD WITH EXACTLY HOW LONG IT TAKES. AH THIS IS OUR FIRST THIS STAFF WAS THE FIRST TO EVALUATE THIS CHARTER VERSUS THE LAST CHARTER. IT WAS A DIFFERENT STAFF. UM, AS FAR AS MAKEUP, BUT WE CAN WE CAN DEFINITELY LOOK AT HOW LONG IT TOOK. THANK YOU. AND THIS CHARTER PETITION HAS SEVERAL MISSING, UM, OF THOSE 15 REQUIRED CHARTER ELEMENTS, WHICH IS PART OF WHY IT'S RECOMMENDED WITH, UM WHAT IS IT WITH? AH CONDITION WITH CONDITIONS. CAN YOU TALK TO ME ABOUT HOW THOSE ARE GOING TO BE REMEDIED? SURE SO I WILL SAY IT'S TYPICAL TO HAVE CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL. UM MANY OF THESE ARE SORT OF PROCEDURAL. UM, BUT I WILL LET UH UM, GARY, SPEAK TO THAT. THANK YOU. YES. SO ALL SO IF I LOOK THROUGH, AND I WAS JUST FLIPPING THROUGH THERE, SO SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT, UH, YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT IS BEING MENTIONED IN HERE IS THE ADMISSIONS PREFERENCE, RIGHT? SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT IT ALIGNS WITH THE DISTRICT'S CURRENT PRACTICE AND MAKING SURE THAT THE STUDENTS WHO WANT TO ATTEND CAN'T ATTEND. SORRY CAN YOU HEAR ME? JEREMY? OKAY UM, AND SO THAT THAT'S ONE OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS, BUT ALL OF THE OTHER ONES, SO WHAT WE FOUND WERE THINGS LIKE THE PROCESS FOR NOTIFYING A DISTRICT OF RESIDENTS. UM THINGS ARE JUST THEY'RE THEY'RE REALLY PROCEDURAL, AND WE JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE MOU CLARIFIES THAT SO IN THOSE BECAUSE THOSE ARE WRITTEN IN CODE, SO WE JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE'S A PROCESS TO NOTIFY THE DISTRICT OF RESIDENTS THAT THERE IS A PROCEDURE TO FOLLOW WITH IE PEEPS THAT'S CLEARLY CALLED OUT ITS. THERE ARE THE NUMBER OF REFERENCES TO OUR CURRENT PRACTICES AND P Y L IN THE IN THE PETITION, BUT WE NEED TO MAKE SURE IT'S CLARIFIED IN THERE SO AND THAT'S WHAT MOST OF THE FINDINGS THAT YOU'LL SEE WHAT'S NOT IN THERE ARE THE PROCEDURES OR SOME OF THE, UM YEAH, I'LL SAY PROCEDURES OR SOME OF THE SPECIFICS THAT AREN'T IT'S NOT A LACK IN CONTENT. IT'S MORE LACK OF SPECIFIC LANGUAGE THAT WE NEED TO HAVE IN THERE FOR THE HEAD COACH, AND THAT'S EASILY FIXED THROUGH THE OU. YES, I THINK SO.
GREAT. UM OKAY, SO WE THEY WE TALKED A BIT ABOUT THE PRIORITIZATION AND THE DRAWING, UM AND WE HAVE THE LIST. I WANT TO GET CONFIRMATION THAT OUR DISTRICT UM STUDENTS THAT MAY BE IN THAT THAT AREA WOULD HAVE FIRST PRIORITY. OUR DISTRICT STUDENTS WOULD HAVE NEXT PRIORITY AND THEN OUTSIDE YES. SO PART OF THE MOU AND THAT THIS IS WHAT WE'RE ASKING THE BOARD.
I KNOW I'D READ IT, BUT I STILL WANT TO ASK JUST SO THAT IT'S OUT THERE. SO WE'RE ASKING TO MAKE SURE THAT ANY OF THE MATRICULATING STUDENTS FROM THE CURRENT BERNARDO YORBA, UM, ATTENDANCE AREA ARE GIVEN FIRST PRIORITY THAN SIBLINGS OF THOSE STUDENTS. CURRENT STUDENTS, CHILDREN OF EMPLOYEES NOT TO EXCEED 10% OF THE NOT IN THE IN THE IMMEDIATE ATTENDANCE AREA.
UM AND THEN OTHER STUDENTS FROM THE DISTRICT WHO WISH TO ATTEND THE CS CS AND THEN AFTER ALL OF THAT, THEN STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT WOULD HAVE PRIORITY AFTER ALL OF THEM. THANK YOU. UM OKAY, UM DR FISHER. COULD YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE HONORS PROGRAM AND WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE. AND HOW DO WE ENSURE THAT OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE THERE THAT QUALIFY FOR HONORS OR GATE ARE BEING CHALLENGED IN THE WAY THAT WOULD BENEFIT THEM IN EIGHTH GRADE, BUT ALSO MOVING FORWARD. UM IF IT IS APPROVED, OUR FAMILIES ARE GOING TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO DIVE VERY DEEP INTO THIS. UM I DID HAVE A TRUSTEE REACH OUT, SO I'M GONNA TRY MY BEST NOT TO REPLICATE THE NOVEL THAT WAS GIVEN TO THE TRUSTEE AND INQUIRY. BUT I'M SORRY I'VE HAD LIKE A MONTH LONG COLD, SO HERE IT IS. SORRY IF I START COUGHING. UM ESSENTIALLY THOSE OF US IN EDUCATION. THERE IS A VERY RESPECTED RESEARCHER BY THE NAME OF JOHN HATTIE, AND HE LEADS THE VISIBLE LEARNING RESEARCH. AND SO OUR SCHOOL IS AN EVIDENCE BASED SCHOOL, NOT JUST A RESEARCH BASED SCHOOL. I CAN NOT TO DISCREDIT MYSELF AS A RECENT DOCTOR WHO PREFERS TO GO BY MRS AT TIMES. BUT ANYBODY CAN CONDUCT RESEARCH TO BE GROUNDED IN EVIDENCE AS A WHOLE SEPARATE THING. SO OUR HONORS LEARNING MODEL. SO INSTEAD OF HAVING MIXED ABILITY, TRACKING WE HAVE ACCOUNTED FOR LEARNING WITHIN OUR MODEL, SO HONORS DESIGNATION IS NOT GOING AWAY. HONORS LEVEL COURSEWORK IS NOT GOING AWAY AND THEN HONORS EXPECTATION IS NOT GOING AWAY. THE WAY IT HAS BEEN REDESIGNED IS CERTAINLY VERY NEW
[01:35:06]
, VERY NUANCED, AND WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF WHAT WE'RE PROVIDING. SO I'M GLAD TO HEAR THE HONORS DESIGNATION WON'T GO AWAY. SO EVEN IF THEY MIGHT NOT NECESSARILY BE GOING INTO AN HONORS ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS CLASS THEY ARE STILL AT AN HONORS LEVEL AND THEIR THEIR WORK IN THAT PARTICULAR CLASS WOULD BE AT THAT LEVEL WITH AN HONORS DESIGNATION WITHIN THE REPORT CARD IN THE FIRST FOUR WEEKS, I WANT TO ADDRESS GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS WERE DESIGNATED AS SUCH. UM SO AND THAT REPRESENTS 7% OF OUR CURRENT BYU S POPULATION 42% OF THE Y M S STUDENTS ARE IN HONORS COURSES. AND SO THE 7% OF STUDENTS IF WE'RE SEEING A TREND IN THAT WOULD BE AUTOMATICALLY PUT INTO THE HONORS CONTRACT. YOU'RE GOING TO SEE CHARTERS IF APPROVED. HAVE AWESOME OPPORTUNITIES. TO, UM REPURPOSED STAFF. SO UM, WE I AM HONORED TO BE IN SUCH STRONG COLLABORATION WITH OTHER CHARTERS HAVE GREAT MENTORS. AND SO WE ARE GOING TO BE DESIGNING ON US CONTRACTS. UM WE HAVE VERY, VERY ROBUST PACING GUIDES. THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS. ONE WILL BE A SAMPLE. FOR OUR FAMILIES. IF WE ARE APPROVED . PEOPLE GET TO SEE THAT. AND SO WHAT WE'RE LOOKING AT IS WHAT ARE OUR LEARNING EXPECTATIONS. SO IF WE LOOK AT ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS EIGHT IF THE STUDENTS IN FIRST SEMESTER YOU DO A FIRST SEMESTER TO CONTRACT AND THEN YOU DO A SECOND SEMESTER CONTRACT. IF STUDENTS IN LANGUAGE ARTS EIGHT ARE FOCUSING ON LITERARY ANALYSIS, PREDOMINANTLY WITHIN THE FIRST QUARTER. AND THEN IN THE SECOND QUARTER, THEY'RE LOOKING AT INFORMATIONAL TEXTS AND THEN ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING. THEY'RE LOOKING AT MORE, BUT THOSE ARE HEAVY HITTERS STANDARDS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT. WE'RE LEARNING SKILLS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT THE HONORS CONTRACT IS GOING TO ASK OUR HONORS LEVEL STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT IN TRACKED IN THE CLASS. THEY'RE MIXED THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL DAY TO BE ABLE TO SHOW THAT THEY HAVE BOTH DEEP AND TRANSFER LEARNING. SO IF THEY IF WE LOOK AT THOSE SKILLS, CAN THEY NOVEL SETTING APPLY THEIR LEARNING. WE'RE NOT GIVING KIDS MORE WORK AND BEING IN THE CLASS. WE'RE ASKING THEM TO COME TO TASK TO SAY, CAN YOU APPLY THE SKILLS THAT YOU ACQUIRED WITHIN? THANKS. GOOD I WOULD JUST SAY THAT THE WHOLE MIDDLE SCHOOL HONORS MODEL IS AN ANTIQUATED MODEL TO SOME DEGREE AND IT TRACKS KIDS. AND SO WHAT? WHAT IT'S REALLY AND COLLEGES DON'T LOOK AT WHETHER YOU TOOK HONORS IN MIDDLE SCHOOL OR NOT, THEY WANT TO KNOW. ARE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN HIGH SCHOOL? AND AS LONG AS WE'RE GETTING OUR KIDS SUCCESSFUL FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND BEYOND AT THIS SCHOOL, AND WE'RE CHALLENGING OR KIDS, YOU KNOW WHETHER WE HAVE THIS LABEL OR NOT, THESE KIDS ARE GONNA BE LEARNING EXTREMELY HIGH LEVEL. UM UH, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE, UM, TO WHERE THEY WANT TO DO HONORS ENGLISH AT HIGH SCHOOL. THEY CAN . UM I HAD A MEETING TODAY WITH THE PRESIDENT OF FULLERTON COLLEGE, AND THEY'RE VERY INTERESTED IN, UM IN TEACHING FORENSICS, UH, COMPUTER FORENSICS. CLASS TO THESE STUDENTS AND GIVING THEM COLLEGE CREDIT. SO WILL THIS BE AN HONORS? ENGLISH CLASS? NO BUT THESE KIDS WILL GRADUATE FROM THIS CHARTER WITH COLLEGE CREDIT BY THE TIME THEY GET TO HIGH SCHOOL, UM, SO THERE'S A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY HERE. I THINK WE NEED TO GET AWAY FROM TRACKING KIDS. YOU KNOW, EARLY ON WHETHER THEY'RE AN HONORS, MATH OR ENGLISH. AND REALLY FOCUS ON WHAT ARE THEY LEARNING AND HOW ARE THEY PREPARING AND I THINK THAT'S WHERE DR FISHER'S IS HEADING WITH THIS SCHOOL. I APPRECIATE THAT, AND I WANT KIDS TO BE CHALLENGED AND WHERE THEY ARE AND BE ABLE TO SCAFFOLD AND GET THEM TO THAT LEVEL. I AGREE THAT YOU KNOW, EVEN IF YOU'RE LABELED ON US, IT DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN YOU ARE NOT IN SOME WAYS. UM AND IT REALLY BECOMES PART OF THE INDIVIDUAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM THAT WE WANT TO PROVIDE TO THEM. UM I THINK COMPUTER SCIENCE LENDS TO THAT BECAUSE THEY CAN DO THINGS INDEPENDENTLY AND ON THEIR OWN AND KIND OF GO WITH THEIR SAME LEVEL. UM ALMOST IN IN A MONTESSORI ISH KIND OF WAY. UM SO I APPRECIATE THAT A LOT. CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE BIT? ABOUT THE MUSIC AND ART PROGRAMS THAT WOULD BE INCORPORATED.ABSOLUTELY SO, UM AND I ACTUALLY WANT TO THANK GLENVIEW PARENTS, THE GLENVIEW, THE GLENVIEW FAMILIES AND THEN OBVIOUSLY OUR CURRENT LEWIS CAPOTE'S PARENTS. THAT'S THE NAME FOR A DELAY.
PARENTS BLENDED FAMILIES DO NOT HESITATE TO PROVIDE VERY HIGH QUALITY FEEDBACK. UM LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH. AND SO WHEN I WAS EXPLAINING THIS LIKE CONCEPTUAL MODEL OF TARGETED ENGAGEMENT CYCLES APPARENT, SAID, CAN YOU JUST CALL IT THAT YOU'RE GIVING KIDS BASICALLY EXTRA ELECTIVE SINCE YOU'VE CUT THAT ONE ELECTIVE TO INCREASE INSTRUCTIONAL MINUTES. UM SO UH,
[01:40:04]
I WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO MICHAEL KLEIN, WHO'S A PHENOMENAL MUSIC DIRECTOR AT ESPERANZA HIGH SCHOOL. THE HIRE OF HIM WAS GREAT. SO WORKING WITH HIM WORKING WITH PHIL MORTENSEN AND WORKING WITH OUR EXCEPTIONAL BAND, DIRECTOR OR INSTRUMENT, INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC DIRECTOR JOCELYN CHRYSTIA. WE ARE PROUD TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO OFFER BOTH INSTRUMENTAL AND VOCAL MUSIC. INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC CURRENTLY HAS THE NUMBERS TO HAVE A FULL PATHWAY. OUR VOCAL MUSIC IS IN A REBUILDING ERA. AND SO I'M GRATEFUL FOR MR KLEIN'S DEDICATION AND COMMITMENT, AND SO WE WILL BE GIVING HIM CONSISTENT TIME WITHIN THE SCHOOL DAY, AS WELL AS THROUGH THE WONDERFUL OPPORTUNITY OF OUR FUNDS THAT ARE COMING APPLYING THOSE FUNDS.TO ENSURE THAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO THINGS LIKE SPECIALIZED VOCAL COACHING. I PEOPLE CAN READ BETWEEN THE LINES OF THIS ONE. WE HAVE AN AMAZING, PHENOMENAL COMMUNITY MEMBER HERE WHO OWNS A DANCE STUDIO. EVEN LIKE AS WE DREAM AND THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX SINCE WE HAVE OUR TARGETED ENGAGEMENT CYCLE. WE HAVE SO MANY OPPORTUNITIES WHERE WE CAN SAY TO THE BOARD OF EDUCATION. HEY, I'VE GOT 5 60 MINUTE BLOCKS WHERE STUDENTS CAN EXPLORE INTERESTS AND GET DEEPER INTO THINGS WITH THIS FUNDING. WE WOULD LIKE TO PROPOSE THESE PEOPLE COME IN TO SERVICE THE ARTS. THANK YOU. UM, I SEE THAT IN A VARIETY OF SCHOOLS IN DIFFERENT WAYS. SO IT'S NOT UNUSUAL. UM AND SO VERY MUCH WILL, I THINK FEEL LIKE ALL OF OUR OTHER SCHOOLS. IT WILL JUST BE HAVE A DIFFERENT FOCUS. I APPRECIATE THAT A LOT. UM THE ONLY LAST QUESTION I HAVE IS JUST RELATED TO OUR EIGHTH GRADE OR SEVENTH GRADERS THAT ARE CURRENTLY THEY'RE MOVING TO EIGHTH GRADE NEXT YEAR. THAT MAY NOT NECESSARILY WANT TO UM, TO BE PART OF THE CHARTER. HAVE WE DEVELOPED ANY, UM, LIKE ANYWAY OR TALKED ABOUT ANYWAY? WHERE WHERE THEY COULD STILL ATTEND, BE WITH THEIR CLASSMATES BE WITH THEIR TEACHERS, BUT, UM, KIND OF LIKE A DUAL STRAND FOR ONE YEAR THAT COULD TAKE THE EIGHTH GRADERS THROUGH WHAT A NORMAL BERNARDO WOULD BE IN A, UM VERSUS SEVENTH GRADE. SO THE WAY UM I'M GONNA QUOTE A TEACHER.
AND THEN I'M GONNA GO THROUGH. HOPEFULLY A SHORTER EXAMPLE. UM SO IF WE ARE APPROVED ONE OF OUR TEACHERS, THE BEST SAID IT, HE SAID. COMPUTER SCIENCE. A LOT OF PEOPLE LIKE I DON'T WANT TO SPECIALIZE IN THAT BECAUSE IT'S LIKE A THING. REALLY COMPUTER SCIENCE. IT'S A CONCEPTUAL MODEL AND A FRAMEWORK FOR THINKING AND SO AS WE LOOK AT IN THE SAME WAY CLOSE READING, TEXTUAL ANALYSIS, DRAWING EVIDENCE SUPPORTING YOUR CLAIMS COMPUTER SCIENCE IS A THOUGHT PROCESS OF DESIGN.
THINKING AND SO IF YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT, IT ALREADY COMPLEMENTS THE WORK WE DO IN MATH. IT COMPLEMENTS THE WORK WE DO IN LANGUAGE ARTS. SO WHAT I WOULD SAY TO THAT IS, UM I SEE AS A MORE HUMANITIES PERSON. I CAN UNDERSTAND THE INTIMIDATION OF IT. UM, HOWEVER, NOW, ACTUALLY, AFTER MY BEST FRIEND WHO IS A MATH EXPERT AND TEACHER HAS TAUGHT ME TO SEAWORLD IN NUMBERS AND PATTERNS THE WAY I LIKE TO LOOK AT COMPUTER SCIENCES. IT'S BASICALLY LIKE WHERE WE'RE AT RIGHT NOW FOR THE KIDS WHO DON'T WANT TO DIVE DEEP INTO IT. IT'S ESSENTIALLY LIKE SAYING FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DON'T WANT TO DIVE DEEP INTO IT. YOU'VE NEVER BEEN EXPOSED TO THIS LANGUAGE OF MATH. AS AN ANALOGY, SO TWO PLUS TWO EQUALS FOUR. SO ONCE YOU KNOW THAT TWO PLUS TWO EQUALS FOUR. YOU CAN THEN UNDERSTAND THAT NUMBERS CREATE PATTERNS AND PATTERNS CREATE POSSIBILITIES. SO I RECOGNIZE THAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING, OH, MY GOSH. COMPUTER SCIENCE IS NEW. WE HAVE INTENTIONALLY PARTNERED WITH COACH OF THE FUTURE BECAUSE COACH OF THE FUTURE OFFERS THAT DIFFERENTIATION. SO FOR THE KIDS, YOU JUST WANT THE BASICS.
IT IS 12% OF THEIR WEEK. AND VERY, VERY ACCESSIBLE. THANK YOU. I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR TIME. THOSE ARE ALL MY QUESTIONS. HELLO I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS TO, UM. AND THIS IS THE QUESTION. I ASKED THE LAST CHARTER PETITION. I JUST WANTED TO. WHAT IS YOUR COMMITMENT TO THIS CHARTER IN THE IN THE AMOUNT OF YEARS? I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT, UM, OBVIOUSLY GETTING YOUR DOCTORATE AND OBVIOUSLY GETTING HER DOCTORATE WHERE I GOT IT FROM AN OBVIOUSLY GETTING MY DOCTOR WHERE I GOT FROM UM MY CONVERSATIONS AND ENTERING INTO THIS WHERE THIS WAS A LIFE DECISION. SO THIS IS GONNA SOUND STRANGE BECAUSE. I MEAN, MY KIDS GO TO SCHOOL AND THE PEOPLE WELL, SCHOOLS, I BELIEVE IN PUBLIC EDUCATION, SO FIRST AND FOREMOST AS A MOTHER AND WELL USD. HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY. TO BE ABLE TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING GREATER THAN YOURSELF. WITH A STAFF WHO IS COMMITTED TO IT. IS MORE ENTICING. THEN WRITING A BOOK,
[01:45:06]
BECOMING A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT. GOING TO IT. I LOVE YOU GUYS PIECES, BUT WHAT YOU GUYS DO IS A LITTLE BORING GOING TO A DISTRICT OFFICE. UM THIS THIS REALLY IS A DREAM COME TRUE. AND THE REASON WHY IT'S A DREAM COME TRUE. AND I WILL ASK YOU GUYS TO WATCH MY VERY FAVORITE PROMO VIDEO OF MY STAFF WHEN WE HAVE IT COME OUT. IS YOU CAN'T REALLY FAKE WHAT WE'RE PUTTING TOGETHER WHEN YOU WATCH THE VIDEOS. TO BE ABLE TO WALK INTO A CAMPUS. I HAVE BEEN SICK FOR LIKE OVER A MONTH, AND IT'S LIKE KILLING ME BECAUSE I'M JUST LOVE THE PEOPLE I WORK WITH. I LOVE WATCHING THE KIDS COME TO LIFE I LOVE SEEING. I ALWAYS SAY I'M GONNA WATCH YOUR EYES. WHEN DOES THE LIGHT GO OUT OF YOUR EYES WHILE I'M WATCHING? WITH WHAT OUR TEACHERS AND OUR STAFF. IT'S NOT JUST THE TEACHING STUFF, THE FRONT OFFICE STAFF IT'S JACK. EVERYBODY KNOWS JACK. IT'S EVERYBODY. I'M STARTING TO SEE THE SPARK COME BACK AND KIDS EYES. I'M SEEING THE IRONY OF EVERYTHING IS I'M SEEING THE COMPUTERS CLOTHES. SO THAT WE CAN USE THEM INTENTIONALLY. SO THE COMMITMENT IS I AM HERE. GOOD ANSWER. UM. NEXT QUESTION IS, UM. IF YOU WANT REFERENCES LIKE PAGE. FIVE OF THE DISTRICT. RESPONSIBLE BULLET. 0.3 TALKS ABOUT THE CHARTER BEING FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS FAIR SHARE OF ITS ENCROACHMENT OF THE DISTRICT GENERAL FUND FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION. AND THIS IS THE QUESTION THAT MOST PEOPLE ASK ME BECAUSE THE BUDGET IS NOT REALLY CLEAR ON IT. YEAH, AND SO I JUST WANT TO I'M GONNA JUST GOING TO ASK SO THAT IT'S CLEAR AND THERE'S NO UM MR INTERPRETATION OF IT, BUT THAT THE CHARTER WILL BE. RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THEIR FAIR SHARES IN ALL THE DIFFERENT WAYS THAT THE DISTRICT'S HELPING THROUGH BUSINESS SERVICES, UM HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIAL EDUCATION, I MEAN, IT LISTS ALL ALL THE SERVICES AND MULTIPLE PAGES THROUGHOUT THE CHARTER PETITION. YES. THEY WILL BE ANY OTHER LEGAL WAY AROUND. I DON'T EITHER. BUT SINCE THAT'S THE NUMBER ONE QUESTION, PEOPLE ASK ME, I THOUGHT, OKAY, IT'S ASKED MORE THAN ABOUT THE HONORS TO ME, SO UM, THANK YOU. SO I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE IS CLEAR ON THAT, UM AND THEN WILL THERE BE IF IT IS APPROVED TONIGHT? WILL THERE BE FORMAL MEETINGS TO ADDRESS A LOT OF THE PARENTS' CONCERNS BEFORE THE MOU IS COMPLETED? THIS IS WHERE I WANT TO THANK MY HUSBAND WHO'S NOT WATCHING BECAUSE HE'S TAKING CARE OF OUR TWO CHILDREN RIGHT NOW. SO IF THIS IS APPROVED, AND I WANT TO THANK THE INCREDIBLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS THAT WE'RE WORKING WITH, I WANT TO THANK OUR AMAZING ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL RACHEL COLLINS. WE HAVE A REALLY ROBUST SCHEDULE BECAUSE WE HAVE SUCH A SHORT WINDOW TO GIVE INFORMATION. WE'RE GOING TO BE PARTNERING ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS TO OFFER, UM DAYTIME AND EVENING SESSIONS. IF FAMILIES WANT TO COME, THEY'RE WELCOME TO COME. IF THIS IS APPROVED TOMORROW, IT WON'T BE TONIGHT. BUT TOMORROW OUR CURRENT FAMILIES WILL GET AN EMAIL INVITING THEM TO A WEBEX. WEBEX IS LIKE THE FASTEST WAY TO GET PEOPLE THERE. LIKE TONIGHT. MY KIDS HAD MULTIPLE COMPETING SPORTS EVENTS AND MY HUSBAND'S AND SUPERMAN, SO I ALSO RECOGNIZED AS A PARENT THAT WE'RE VERY BUSY PEOPLE. SO WE WANT TO GET THE INFORMATION OUT TO OUR FAMILIES AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. IF APPROVED, AND THEN THAT WILL GIVE ME A WHOLE 24 HOURS TO POLISH UP WHAT I NEED TO POLISH UP AND PRESENTED TO YOU AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE. SO OUR PLAN IS 730 WEBEX AND TO OUR AMAZING FAMILIES, YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU. YOU'RE GONNA BE GETTING THAT MESSAGE TOMORROW MIDDAY. AND ALSO YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE PARENT NIGHTS? YEAH, THAT'S GOING TO BE THE ALL OF THE PARENT NIGHTS WILL BE SPLIT THROUGHOUT JANUARY. THE OTHER PART OF IT, TOO, IS WE'RE GOING TO CULMINATE THAT, UM, WITH A SHOWCASE SO THAT OUR ACTUAL CURRENT STUDENTS CAN HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TALK TO PARENTS. OKAY. AND THEN, UM, THIS IS ARE. ARE WE GOING TO HAVE A STUDY? UM SESSION ON THIS CHARTER AS WELL TO KIND OF HAMMER OUT SOME OF THESE DETAILS WITH THE M O, YOU KNOW? NO, OKAY. UM. OKAY WELL, THEN I'M GONNA THESE ARE QUESTIONS THAT THE COMMUNITY HAS ASKED AND, UM, I JUST WOULD LIKE TO GET SOME FOLLOW UP ON IT, AND HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE COVERED IN MORE DETAIL AT THESE MEETINGS. BUT OUR NEXT YEAR, EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AP BERNARDI YORBA. UM, LIKE A LOT OF THEM ARE NOT A LOT , BUT MANY OF THEM TOOK SPANISH ONE THIS YEAR. ARE THEY GOING TO BE ABLE TO TAKE SPANISH TO NEXT YEAR? THEY WILL BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE ONE B SEQUENCE. YES SO IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, IT'S BROKEN UP IN ONE A AND ONE B. THEY WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE THE ONE B YES,[01:50:02]
EXCELLENT. AND THEN, UM IF STUDENTS. BERNARDA YOUR BUT I WANT TO TRANSFER TO ANOTHER MIDDLE SCHOOL. WHAT IS THEIR PRIORITY OR WHAT? LIKE HOME SCHOOL WHERE THEY GO TO? IT'S A CHOICE TRANSFER WINDOW THAT OPENS AT THE END OF JANUARY, AND ALL STUDENTS DISTRICT WIDE HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PUT IN FOR A TRANSFER. JUST FOLLOW UP WITH THAT. SO IF THEY'RE IN THE BERNARDO BOUNDARY RIGHT NOW, THEY WOULD AUTOMATICALLY GO THERE UNLESS THEY TRANSFERRED OUT OR THEY WOULD. OKAY, OKAY. AND THEN, UM. SO THAT WOULD BE. SO WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT LIKE RE DRYING THE MIDDLE SCHOOL BOUNDARIES SO THAT PARENTS HAVE OPTIONS. TO KNOW WHERE THEIR KIDS ARE GOING IF THEY DIDN'T WANT TO PARTICIPATE. SO THEY DON'T THEY HAVE TO TRANSFER CORRECT. OKAY, UM. I THINK THESE KIND OF QUESTIONS WILL BE BETTER . ASKED AT THESE MEETINGS, YOU KNOW, LIKE THERE'S A WAS A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT. PASSING LACK OF DAILY PE FOR MENTAL HEALTH.UM COMPUTER UPGRADES. AND, UM. AND HOW WILL THE CODEINE CLASSES ALIGNED WITH COMPUTER CLASSES IN HIGH SCHOOL? SO THAT'S I THINK THAT WOULD BE BETTER HANDLED. THAT APPARENT MEETING IS THAT TRUE? WE CAN WE CAN ADDRESS ALL THIS. THEY WILL BE ADDRESSED, ACTUALLY. OKAY MAYBE WE COULD ADDRESS THE ONE ABOUT HOW THESE CODING CLASSES WILL ALIGN WITH COMPUTER CLASSES IN HIGH SCHOOL.
IT'S KIND OF LIKE THE BRIDGE. YEAH, WE'RE WORKING ON THAT AS WELL. WE'RE LOOKING AT ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS AND WHAT PROGRAMS THEY OFFER. UM AND HOW WE'RE GOING TO TIE THAT IN. WE HAVE. WE HAVE COMPUTER SCIENCE CLASSES AT MOST OF THE HIGH SCHOOL, SO YES, IT SHOULD BE.
NO. IF THEY GO THERE, WHICHEVER HIGH SCHOOL THEY CHOOSE. THEY SHOULD STILL BE ABLE TO CONTINUE THAT. YOU KNOW THEY'LL CONTINUE, BUT THERE'LL BE MORE ADVANCED BY THE TIME THEY GET THERE, SO WE NEED TO DEVELOP MORE ADVANCED LEVELS. THAT MAKES SENSE. AND THAT'S WHAT I'M LIKE. LIKE WHERE YOU KNOW IF I COMPLETE MY TWO YEARS OF BERNARDI OR BUT LIKE, WHAT WOULD I BE ELIGIBLE FOR? IN HIGH SCHOOL AND HOW THAT WOULD BUMP BUMP A STUDENT UP. I THINK THAT'S A REALLY IMPORTANT THING TO DISCUSS AND AS A BOARD AS WELL AS TO LET PARENTS KNOW. WELL, I'M SORRY TO JUMP IN REAL QUICK. BUT IN THE ON THAT POINT, UM DR TURNER'S YOU MENTIONED FORTUNE COLLEGE WANTING TO TALK ABOUT FORENSIC, UM FORENSIC. COMPUTER SCIENCE. THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I THINK IF WE START PARTNERING WITH OTHER SCHOOLS, AGENCIES, WHATEVER TO BE ABLE TO ALLOW THE HIGHER LEVEL COURSES TO TAKE PLACE. THAT IS WHERE THIS REALLY STARTS TO GET INTERESTING. UM FOR THESE KIDS THAT HAVE GONE THROUGH BERNARDO THAT I DIDN'T THAT'S THAT. IS, I THINK A SMART THING TO LOOK AT FOR SURE. YES THE 2025 PATHWAY NOT JUST UPWARDS, BUT K 12, SO ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL IS SOMETHING WILL BE WORKING ON. COOL. ALL RIGHT, TODD, DO YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS? YES A COUPLE OF COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS. I LIKE THE CONCEPT WITH THE HONORS PATH , THE CONTRACT AND ALL THE INFORMATION THAT, UM I THAT I GOT. WHICH WAS A LOT OF INFORMATION. THANK YOU, DR FISHER. UM BUT IT WAS IT WAS VERY HELPFUL AND UNDERSTANDING WHAT I THINK I UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS TO BE THE THING I NOTICE ABOUT IT IS IT'S MUCH MORE ABOUT SELF MOTIVATION FOR THE STUDENTS. AND THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT MASTERY, LEARNING AND BEING ABLE TO APPLY IT, NOT JUST MEMORIZE SOMETHING FOR A TEST, I THINK IS A REALLY GOOD WAY TO GO ABOUT THAT. I'M EXCITED ABOUT THAT. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT CAME UP WAS WHEN YOU'RE WHEN YOU'RE TRACKING KIDS. YOU GET THE HONOR STUDENTS IN ONE CLASS, AND THEN YOU GET THE NOT UNDER STUDENTS IN OTHER CLASSES. WHAT'S THE GENERAL PLAN? I'M GONNA ASK FOR, UH, EVERY SPECIFIC DETAIL YET, BUT THE GENERAL PLAN TO ADDRESS THE GAP IN THE CLASSROOM. I KNOW THAT THERE'S ENRICHMENT DAYS, BUT I WOULD LIKE YOU TO SPEAK TO THAT A LITTLE BIT. YEAH, SO I MEAN, LIKE I SAID TO YOU, IT'S NOT JUST RESEARCH BASES, EVIDENCE BASED. SO IF YOU WANT TO GOOGLE SOMETHING REALLY FUN. THE ABC MODEL FROM JOHN HOPKINS, UM SO WHEN YOU UM IF YOU READ THE CHARTER PETITION, AND I KNOW IT WAS VERY DETAILED, UM, ONE OF OUR PRIDE POINTS IS INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN AND DELIVERY. SO WHEN YOU COORDINATE CLASSES, AND I'M SPEAKING TO LIKE THE TEACHER, HEART NERDS, UM YOU DON'T WELL, IT'S NOT BEST PRACTICE OR GROUNDED IN EVIDENCE TO BE LIKE. OH SIT WHEREVER YOU WANT TO SIT. AND I JUST HOPE IT WORKS OUT. OKAY FOR YOU.
TEACHERS DESIGNED THEIR CLASSROOMS, VERY INTENTIONALLY MIXED ABILITY. GROUPING UM WHY
[01:55:06]
THIS IS A DREAM IS MRS COLLINS AND I GET TO BE TEACHERS AT LIKE THE HIGHEST LEVEL, SO BEING ABLE TO LOOK AT THE DATA OF OUR STUDENTS, PLACING THEM INTENTIONALLY. OUR PARENTS ALREADY AT THIS POINT, PROBABLY OR LIKE, CAN YOU NOT SEND ME ANY MORE EMAILS? THEY'VE PROBABLY BEEN GRATEFUL FOR MY ILLNESS THIS MONTH BECAUSE IT'S BEEN A STRUGGLE TO GET SOME THINGS OUT.BUT OUR COMMUNICATION WILL BE AT HYPER STEROID LEVEL. I ALSO WANT TO SAY IN TERMS OF BECAUSE BEFORE COMING TO THIS GREAT DISTRICT, I WAS A HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR, AND I WAS A HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR FOR 2200 KIDS. MY CASELOAD WAS LARGER THAN BERNARDO. YOU'RE WITH A MIDDLE SCHOOLS POPULATION. AND I TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN ON THAT GRADUATION DAY, HIGH FIVING AND NONE. EVERYONE IN MY KIDS NAMES AT THAT SCHOOL. SO IT IS STILL VERY POSSIBLE TO GET TO KNOW KIDS NAMES, EVEN IN A LARGE ENVIRONMENT. MY COLLEAGUES AT KRAMER, WHO I LOVE VERY MUCH. I KNOW THEY'RE VERY DEEPLY INVESTED IN THEIR KIDS AND THEIR DOUBLE OUR SIZE. SO I THINK JUST TO KIND OF GO BACK TO WHERE WE'RE AT. WE HAVE TO KNOW OUR KIDS. THAT WAS THE CHARGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT. PARENTS HAVE TO KNOW WHY THEIR KIDS ARE STRUGGLING OR NOT. TEACHERS HAVE TO KNOW WHY KIDS ARE STRUGGLING OR NOT. AND THEN WE DESIGN OUR INTERVENTION BASED ON WHAT THE DATA TELLS US. I I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING US POTENTIAL ONE LAST THING I AM I THINK I KNOW THE ANSWER TO THIS, BUT I'D LIKE TO HEAR IT. UM, HERE. THE FACT THAT BERNARDO YORBA IS GOING TO BE A CHARTER SCHOOL DOES NOT PRECLUDE THEM FROM PARTICIPATING IN MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS CORRECT. WE ARE WE HAVE A VALUABLE GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP TO DEFEND. YEAH AND FOR ANY OF THE STUDENTS WHO MIGHT BE WATCHING. I'M SUPER PROUD. WE'VE HAD STUDENTS WHO ARE DEEPLY INVESTED IN IT. WE ARE NOT HAVING UNIFORMS ARE DRESS CODE IS ADEQUATE ENOUGH. AND THEN LAST.
MY LAST PIECE, UM I JUST WANT TO ENCOURAGE TO GET WHERE IT'S GOING TO BE. HOPEFULLY AN ONSLAUGHT OF INFORMATION IF THIS GOES THROUGH, BECAUSE THAT'S ONE OF THE BIGGEST QUESTIONS THAT I'VE GOT THE SIDES HONOR IS WHAT'S HAPPENING. I DON'T STEVE, ENOUGH INFORMATION COMING OUT. I KNOW THERE'S BEEN A PROCESS IN PLACE THAT WE HAVE TO THAT STEPS HAVE TO BE TAKEN AHEAD OF TIME.
UM AND WE HAVE TO BE PATIENT WITH SOME OF THIS STUFF. BUT WITH THAT TRANSFER WINDOW, UM, IF PEOPLE DO WANT TO ONCE THEY UNDERSTAND IT ALL STILL WANT TO LEAVE. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE AS MUCH INFORMATION FOR EVERYBODY AS POSSIBLE. I DOUBT THAT. UH UM. PEOPLE WILL WANT TO LEAVE. HOPEFULLY ONCE WE LEARN ALL OF THE DETAILS, INFORMATION, BUT THAT COMMUNICATION IS GOING TO BE HUGE IN ALL OF US. SO THANKS. I COULD PIGGYBACK ON THAT A LITTLE BIT. WE HAD, UM A LOT OF QUESTIONS ON. HOW DID WHY DID THIS HAPPEN IN THIS TIMELINE? AND UM, YOU KNOW, HOW CAN IT BE EXTENDED FURTHER THAN THAT? AND I KNOW THERE ARE RULES AND REGULATIONS AROUND THE TIME LIMITS FROM WHEN A CHARTER IS SUBMITTED TO THE TIME WHEN WE HAVE TO LOOK AT IT. MAYBE DR TURNESS OR SOMEONE CAN TALK ABOUT UM YOU KNOW THE LIMITATIONS AND THE TIMELINESS.
WE HAVE. UM, TO MOVE FORWARD SOMETHING LIKE THIS. IT IS KIND OF FAST, BUT WE'RE LIMITED AND WHAT WE CAN DO. YEAH I THINK SO. PLEASE I KNOW IT'S KIND OF BEEN MY WORLD A LITTLE BIT. OKAY, SO, UM, I DO WANT TO ADDRESS TO THE FAMILY MEMBERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO FEEL LIKE, OH, MY GOODNESS LIKE THIS JUST CAME OUT OF NOWHERE. SO THERE'S A MYRIAD OF WAYS THAT YOU CAN BECOME A CONVERSION, CHARTER SCHOOL OR AN INDEPENDENT CHARTER SCHOOL. WE'RE NOT ADDRESSING INDEPENDENT CHARTER SCHOOLS BECAUSE THAT JUST CONFUSES PEOPLE. SO THE STAFF AT BERNARDO YORBA SAW A NEED WITH DECLINING ENROLLMENT AS WELL AS JUST SPEAKING VERY OPENLY. PUBLIC EDUCATION. AND AS I STATED PREVIOUSLY I BELIEVE IN PUBLIC EDUCATION. PUBLIC EDUCATION RIGHT NOW WE ARE IN A VERY, VERY, VERY UNIQUE TIME. SO THE WHOLE REALITY OF CHARTRES UNLESS THE STATE COMES IN AND DOESN'T MORATORIUM LIKE THEY DID IN 2015, YOU ARE GOING TO START TO SEE A LOT MORE CHARTERS VYING FOR SPACES IN PUBLIC CLASSROOMS, BECAUSE, ALTHOUGH I TAKE A LOT OF FLAK FOR ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THE AMERICAN PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM HAS HISTORICALLY AND CONTINUALLY FAILS, CHILDREN THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO SHARE THAT SAME BELIEF WITH ME, AND THERE'S A LOT OF DATA SETS THAT TELL US. HEY WE ARE NOT HITTING ALL OF THE MARKS. WE NEED TO MEET FOR ALL OF THE KIDS THAT WE NEED TO MEET THEM. SO IF YOU LOOK INTO THAT THEN YOU HAVE PEOPLE WHO ARE WILLING TO COMMIT THEIR LIFE TO THIS WORK, AND THEN THEY RALLY. OTHER PEOPLE SOMETIMES LISTEN WITH PARENTS
[02:00:01]
FOR US, UM AND THIS IS NO DISRESPECT BECAUSE SOME OF MY PAST FACULTY MEMBERS WHO HAVE WORKED WITH WHO I DEEPLY LOVE, AND THEY'VE BEEN THROUGH BIRTHING CHILDREN WITH ME, THAT'S A MAGICAL PROCESS. BUT THIS STAFF IN PARTICULAR. WE'RE JUST NOT OKAY. WHEN MY LANGUAGE ARTS TEAM COMES IN VERY FIRST THING EARLY IN THE MORNING, AND IT'S LIKE, OH, MY GOODNESS. I SEE THE IMPACT THAT MISSING FOURTH GRADE HAD ON MY KIDS, AND THEN WE DON'T HAVE TIME WITHIN THE SCHOOL DAY TO ADDRESS IT, AND THEY'RE DOING THEM BEST THAT THEY CAN TO DO BELL WORK. THAT'S REALLY WHERE I'M LOOKING MORE LIKE THE 90 DAYS THAT WE HAVE FROM THE TIME IT'S COMMITTED TO SORRY. SO THEN WE GO. SO THE STAFF WE PRESENT IT. THE DISTRICT HAS UP TO 90 DAYS, SO IT STARTS AT 30 TO 90. THEN YOU MAKE THE DECISION AND IT HAPPENS OR IT DOESN'T. SO THAT'S REALLY LITERALLY WHAT THAT CODES US. SO YOU GUYS HAVE THE RIGHT AND THE POWER TO BE ABLE TO SAY NO, WE DON'T WANT TO DO THIS. UM WE'VE INVESTED SO MUCH THAT IF IT'S A NO, PROBABLY SEE US COME BACK AGAIN. AND I THINK THE STATUTORY DEADLINE TO HAVE A CHARTER APPROVED FOR THE FOR THE SUBSEQUENT YEAR IS, UM, JANUARY IS THAT IT SOUNDS THAT'S WHY WE'RE WE ARE WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW. THANK YOU. I JUST WANTED TO ADDRESS THE 90 DAY WINDOW BECAUSE THERE WERE A LOT OF QUESTIONS AROUND THAT AND WHY IT WAS FAST, BUT WE'RE OBLIGATED TO GO AS FAST AS AS THAT. THANK YOU. TIED ANYMORE. QUESTIONS COMMENT. ONE MORE SORRY. I JUST WANTED TO SAY I'M GLAD TO SEE THE BERARDI URBAN DISTINCTION STILL ON THE NAME OF THE SCHOOL. I THINK THAT WAS A GOOD CALL JUST FROM A COMMUNITY STANDPOINT. SO THANK YOU FOR THAT. NO THANK YOU FOR THE COMMUNITY FEEDBACK THAT IT WAS IMPORTANT. DO YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? YEAH I'M SUPER EXCITED. UM I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR STAFF AND THE TEAM AND OUR DISTRICT STAFF WHO REALLY HAD TO WORK FAST TO GET THIS TOGETHER. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE KIDS. UM I HAD THE SAME QUESTIONS WERE MY DAUGHTER. MY SON IS IN SEVENTH GRADE, AND THEY DON'T REALLY KNOW IF THEY LIKE COMPUTER SCIENCE. AND SO WHAT DO WE DO WITH THEM FOR A THIRD GRADE I WANT, I KIND OF SAID IS WELL, IS THERE EVER JUST A SUBJECT BECAUSE COMPUTER SCIENCE KIND OF ONE OF THOSE THINGS? I MEAN, I THINK TONY THURMAN SAID THE OTHER DAY. THAT THEY'RE TRYING TO PUT LIKE A COMPUTER, A MANDATORY COMPUTER SCIENCE INTO HIGH SCHOOL. UM SO I KIND OF LIKE MENTIONED THAT I SAID, IS IT KIND OF LIKE MAYBE LIKE FOR ME IF I DON'T REALLY LIKE MATH, BUT I JUST GOTTA GOTTA DO IT BECAUSE IT'S GOOD FOR ME. I GUESS THAT'S WHAT THEY TOLD ME THEN, LIKE, YOU KNOW, YOU KIND OF DO THE COMPUTER SCIENCE. IT'S ONLY 12. IT'S NOT AS IN DEPTH AS SAY. YOU KNOW THE KIDS WHO ARE REALLY GOING TO HAVE TO FOCUS IN IT. IS IT JUST SOMETHING GOOD FOR KIDS JUST TO GET THEIR FEET WET. MAYBE THEY LIKE IT. MAYBE THEY DON'T. IT'S KIND OF LIKE TAKING LIKE AN ELECTIVE LIKE MAYBE TREATING IT LIKE THAT. AND SO THEY SAID, OKAY, MAYBE, AND THEN THE WHOLE PE THING TO SOMEBODY ELSE MADE A COMMENT. THEY SAID. OUR KIDS ARE SO ACTIVE. THEY'RE DOING SO MANY SPORTS DANCE ALL THIS STUFF AFTER SCHOOL. MAYBE THIS IS THE TIME THAT WE LIKE WE EMBRACED. YOU KNOW THIS CHANGE THE MIDDLE SCHOOL. WHERE HEY, WE'RE SO ACTIVE AFTER SCHOOL. IT'S REALLY LIKE JUMPING THE ACADEMICS AND THEN THEY'RE GOING TO RUN AROUND ON THE SOCCER FIELD AFTER CLASS. SO I WAS GETTING SOME POSITIVE FEEDBACK. WORDS LIKE YOU LOOK AT THIS THING. OH, WELL, MAYBE THAT WAS OPTIONAL, BUT IT'S OKAY WITH US. SO I'M JUST SUPER EXCITED, AND I THANK EVERYBODY FOR ALL THE WORK THAT THEY'VE DONE TO TRY TO GET THIS TOGETHER SO QUICKLY, AND I WAS REALLY EXCITED AT THE OUT OF BOX THINKING. SO WITH THAT IF WE DON'T HAVE ANY MORE COMMENTS OR QUESTIONS, AIDEN, HOW ABOUT YOU? NOTHING. UM, I THINK MAYBE. I WAS. IT WAS SOMETHING THAT I DID CONSIDER. I DID, UM, I THINK A CLUB AFTER SCHOOL CLUB CALLED APP JAM IN MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND I REALLY LIKED IT. I THINK IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS, UM WAS AVAILABLE FOR ME IN MIDDLE SCHOOL. I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE AT LEAST TRIED TO BE A PART OF IT.SO YEAH, I DO THINK THIS IS A GOOD IDEA. DO YOU KNOW WHAT ANIMATRONICS IS? YEAH, SO LIKE A LOT OF OUR YOUNGER PEOPLE UNDERSTAND? LIKE COMPUTER SCIENCE OPENS UP A WHOLE ANOTHER WORLD. SO I THINK LIKE WHEN I TALK TO KIDS WHEN I'M LIKE ANIMATRONICS. THEY'RE LIKE, WAIT. WHAT LIKE? YEAH. SO YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THE CODING LANGUAGE. TO BUILD AN ANIMATED ROBOT AND MAKE IT TALK AND MAKE IT PERFORM. SO I MEAN, IF YOU THINK THAT YOU HAVEN'T HAD ENOUGH INFORMATION, THERE'S GONNA BE A WHOLE ONSLAUGHT OF THINGS. AND WE'RE LIKE, LITERALLY DOING LIKE ITERATIONS BECAUSE LIKE AND I WANT TO THANK DR TURNESS JUST FOR BEING LIKE, HEY. HIS VISION NOW CRAZY BRAIN GO DREAM. AND IT'S BEEN REALLY FUN TO DREAM AND IT'S BEEN FUN TO DREAM WITH THE STAFF. SO THANK YOU FOR THAT. THANK YOU, EVERYBODY. ALRIGHT SO WE ARE GOING TO GO TO A VOTE. I'M GOING TO DO A ROLL CALL VOTE, MRS BUCK? YES? MRS ANDERSON. YES. MR
[02:05:01]
FRASER. YES. MR YOUNG BLOOD? YES. AND I AM A YES AND OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. YES.ALRIGHT VOTE CARRIES 50 WITH A I FROM OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. CONGRATULATIONS ORANGE COUNTY SCHOOL OF COMPUTER SCIENCE. OKAY NOW WE ARE GOING TO MOVE INTO OUR CONSENT CALENDAR. THE CONSENT CALENDARS. ACTIONS PROPOSED FOR THE CONSENT CALENDAR ITEMS ARE CONSISTENT WITH APPROVED PRACTICES OF THE DISTRICT AND ARE DEEMED ROUTINE IN NATURE. THE TRUSTEES RECEIVED
[18. CONSENT CALENDAR ]
BOARD AGENDA BACK UP INFORMATION , ADVANCE OF SCHEDULED MEETINGS AND ARE PREPARED TO VOTE WITH KNOWLEDGE ON THE BLOC. VOTE ITEMS. UM AS OF RIGHT NOW, IS THERE ANY ITEMS THAT ANYBODY NEEDS TO PULL? YES I'D LIKE TO PULL 20.14 AND 20.16. 20.14 AND 20.16. OKAY BESIDES THOSE TWO ANYONE ELSE NEED TO PULL ANY ITEMS. OKAY, I NEED EMOTION. I'LL MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE THE CONSENT CALENDAR SECOND. I HAVE EMOTION BY MS ANDERSON OF A SECOND BY MS BACK TO APPROVE ALL ITEMS ON THE CONSENT CALENDAR, BESIDES 20.14 AND 20.16. CALLED VOTE, PLEASE. MRS BUCK. I MRS ANDERSON. MR FRASER. ALL RIGHT. MR YOUNGBLOOD. AND I AM AN EYE STUDENT BOARD MEMBER. I PREFER I CALL YOU. STUDENT BOARD MEMBER, AIDEN. OKAY, ATE IT. ALRIGHT SO THAT CARRIES 50 WITH A VOTE. OF I FROM ADEN AS WELL. ALRIGHT MR ANDERSON 20.14, PLEASE. OKAY I'LL MAKE A MOTION TO APPROVE 20.14 THE APPROVAL OF THREE NOVELS TO THE CORE AND EXTENDED READING LISTS. SECOND. OKAY I HAVE A MOTION BY MS ANDERSON. A SECOND BY MR YOUNGBLOOD. UM TAKE IT AWAY. OH I JUST, UM THERE'S BEEN SO MUCH DISCUSSION ABOUT UM , BOOKS FROM THIS BOARD, AND I WAS JUST REALLY SURPRISED THAT THIS WAS PUT IN THE CONSENT CALENDAR. AND AFTER READING THE PUBLIC COMMENTS AND FROM THE PEOPLE WHO READ IT, AND ALSO SOME CONCERNS FROM TEACHERS ABOUT THE BOOK RESISTANCE. UM I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD ADDRESS IT, UM. I READ THIS BOOK. I THOUGHT IT WAS AMAZING BOOK. I REALLY ENJOYED IT. UM. I THINK THAT WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST, IT'S A REALLY HARD SUBJECT. TO COVER FOR SPECIALLY FOR SIXTH GRADERS, AND I THOUGHT THEY DID A REALLY GOOD JOB DOING THAT. I DON'T THINK THAT UM, MAKING IT A WORK OF FICTION HELPED, I THINK, MAKE IT ACCEPTABLE FOR THE YOUNGER READERS, AND I JUST WANTED TO, UM AT FIRST, I WAS KIND OF DISAPPOINTED THAT IT WASN'T A NONFICTION BOOK BECAUSE I THINK THERE'S SO MANY GREAT STORIES.THAT COME FROM WORLD WAR TWO. BUT, UM THE BEST PART OF THE BOOK. IS UM, FIND MY COFFEE HERE. IS THAT THE IS THAT THE VERY BACK? UM. IT GOES THROUGH ALL THE HISTORICAL FACTS. AND ABOUT THE GROUPS THAT ARE MENTIONED IN THE BOOK AND, UM WITH PICTURES AND IT AND, UM IT REALLY, YOU KNOW DEEPER IN DEPTH DIVE OF THE WARSAW GHETTO MORE AND HOW, UM, THE PREVIOUS. THING THAT HAPPENED, WHICH I CAN'T THINK OF WHAT THE NAME OF IT, BUT THERE WAS A PREVIOUS BATTLE AND HOW THAT INSPIRED THE PEOPLE IN THE WARSAW GHETTO. AND SO, UM I JUST THINK IT'S A GREAT BOOK.
I THOUGHT ALL THREE BOOKS WERE EXCEPTIONAL. UM THE ONE A LONG WAY HOME WAS ABSOLUTELY MY FAVORITE. SO UM, SO THAT I JUST WANTED TO BRING THAT UP? JUST BECAUSE PUBLIC COMMENT WAS, YOU KNOW THEY WERE WORRIED ABOUT THAT BOOK, BUT I THINK IT'S GREAT AND I THINK WE SHOULD APPROVE IT AND MOVE ON. YEAH, I AGREE WITH YOU ON RESISTANCE FOR SURE. I THOUGHT IT WAS VERY LIKE, WELL WRITTEN AND THEN IT DIDN'T GO INTO ANY LIKE UM, REALLY, LIKE A LOT OF DETAIL, LIKE, YOU KNOW, SOMETHING HAPPENED, BUT IT WAS NOT ON THERE WAS NO GORE AND IT WAS LIKE IT WAS JUST I REALLY LIKED THE BOOK. I MEAN, I BLEW THROUGH IT AND OUTSIDE TO BLOW THROUGH IT BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS AT THAT BOARD MEETING AND I GOT A BOOK ON A ONE DAY AND I THOUGHT
[02:10:04]
IT WAS FOR THE NEXT ONE. I THOUGHT I HAVE A WEEK TO READ ALL THREE BOOKS AND I REALIZED I TOMORROW SO BUT, YEAH, IT WAS VERY GOOD. SO ANYTHING ELSE OR TIME, CARRIE? ALRIGHT ROLL CALL VOTE FOR 20.14. I MARYLAND. TODD. I SEAN AND I AM AN EYE, AIDEN. ALRIGHT 20.14 CARRIES 50 WITH YES, BUT FROM ADEN. ALRIGHT 20.16. I NEED A MOTION. UM MAKEUP MOTION. WE APPROVE THE PROPOSAL WITH CODE TO THE FUTURE TO WORK WITH THE STUDENTS AT BERNARDO. YOU'RE A MIDDLE SCHOOL AND 13 ELEMENTARY SITES TO BUILD A COURT EPIC BUILD PROJECT AND GAME AND APP DESIGN. JANUARY 4 22 20 JANUARY 8TH 2024 THROUGH FEBRUARY 23RD 2020 FOR THE STUDENTS AT B. Y M S WILL CONDUCT AN EPIC GAME EPIC BUILD SHOWCASE THAT IS OPEN TO THE ENTIRE DISTRICT ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 30TH 2024, I'LL REPEAT THAT. MARK IT ON YOUR CALENDARS. BERNARDO YOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL WILL CONDUCT AN EPIC BUILD SHOWCASE THAT IS OPEN TO THE ENTIRE DISTRICT ON TUESDAY, JANUARY 30TH 2024 SECOND MOTION BY MRS BUCK SECOND BY MR YOUNG BLOOD, MRS ANDERSON. OKAY MY CONCERN IS NOT ABOUT PURCHASING THIS PROGRAM. I THINK IT'S A GREAT PROGRAM. I'M EXCITED FOR, UM JANUARY 8TH TO COME ALONG. UM THAT IS NOT MY CONCERN. MY CONCERN IS DEPENDING SOURCE. UM IT'S USING THE ARTS AND MUSIC BLOCK GRANT THAT WE JUST APPROVED AND, UM TO PAY FOR IT.AND AS I REVIEWED OUR PRESENTATION ON THE ARTS AND MUSIC, INSTRUCTIONAL BLOCK GRANT. UM WE. INTERVIEWED ELEMENTARY MIDDLE HIGH SCHOOL AND WE ASKED THEM WHAT THEIR PRIORITIES WERE, AND THEN THAT THOSE PRIORITIES WERE PRIORITIZED, WHICH WAS GOING TO USE PROP 28 ENDINGS, WHICH WAS GOING TO USE THIS AND, UM. ACCORDING TO THE ANSWERS WE'VE RECEIVED. THEY'RE TAKING THIS MONEY OUT OF THE NAPA, THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS. UM MONEY FOR ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND. I'M JUST THINKING. CAN'T WE USE A DIFFERENT BUDGET TO PAY FOR THIS ? AND WE USE LIKE R S OR THREE FUNDS? CAN'T WE DO SOMETHING ELSE BECAUSE WE ARE USING UM, THIS MUSIC THIS WAS JUST APPROVED AND I DON'T QUITE SEE THE CORRELATION BETWEEN CODE TO THE FUTURE. AND UM ARE VISUAL ARTS PERFORMING IT'S $75,000, AND I JUST WOULD LIKE TO SEE US UTILIZING THE MONEY THE WAY THAT WE APPROVED AND THE WAY WE DISCUSSED AT OUR PREVIOUS MEETING. WE CAN CERTAINLY LOOK AT OTHER FUNDING OPTIONS FOR IT.
YOU CAN DO THAT. SO EVEN IF YOU PROVE IT, YEAH, WE CAN LOOK AT OTHER OTHER FUNDING OPTIONS FOR IT CAN DO THAT ALSO HATE FOR IT TO COME OUT OF ARTS AND MUSIC, TOO, IF WE CAN FIND ANOTHER SPOT IF WHAT I READ THIS, IT TALKS ABOUT VISUAL DESIGN FOR GAME WHICH WOULD BE VISUAL ART SO THAT'S WHERE I THINK THAT MAKES SENSE TO COME OUT OF THAT. AND I'M MISSING SOMETHING. I DON'T THINK YOU ARE. TODD ONE SECOND. THE REASON WHY WE MADE THE RECOMMENDATION TO UTILIZE THIS FUNDING SOURCES BECAUSE YOU'LL RECALL THE ARTS, MUSIC AND INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS BLOCK GRANT IS OPEN TOO FAR MORE THAN ARTS AND MUSIC AND WITH THIS SIGNIFICANT FUNDING THAT WE'RE RECEIVING FOR PROP 28, WHICH WE HOPE TO BRING PLANS FORWARD IN FEBRUARY TO THE BOARD FOR THE SITES, THERE'S HONESTLY TOO MUCH MONEY. FOR OUR SITES TO CREATE PLANS FOR ARTS AND MUSIC AT THIS TIME, AND THEY'RE GOING THROUGH THAT PROCESS, SO ARTS AND MUSIC ARE GOING TO BE VERY, VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF THROUGH THE PROP 28 MONIES AND WE DID HAVE THIS FUNDING SET ASIDE IN THIS BLOCK GRANT TO JUST BE THE CATCH ALL OF DISCRETIONARY CURRICULUM, MATERIALS AND SERVICES. AND SO WE THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE A GREAT USE OF THOSE FUNDS SENSE. THIS WAS WONDERFUL SERVICE THAT WE'RE PROVIDING OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. BUT ISN'T IT DONE UNDER THE BAPA? UM, THAT IS HOW WE DISCRETION. THAT'S HOW WE DID IT IN THE PRESENTATION IN THE ACTUAL APPROVED PLAN, IT'S JUST UNDER MISCELLANEOUS OR DISCRETIONARY FUNDS. AND SO WE GROUPED IT TO SHOW HOW THE FUNDING WOULD BE SORTED IN THOSE BUCKETS. BUT IT WAS THE CATCH ALL FOR ANY ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS AND SERVICES THAT WE WOULD NEED. OKAY BECAUSE I KNOW I YOU KNOW, I KNOW THERE'S A LOT OF MONEY RIGHT NOW FROM MUSIC AND ARTS. BUT I ALSO KNOW, UM I THINK A
[02:15:04]
TUBA IF I'M IS ABOUT. $14,000 SO THAT THAT MONEY WOULDN'T EVEN BUY. YOU KNOW, FIVE TUBAS FOR OUR SCHOOL, SO I JUST WOULD LIKE TO KEEP THE MONEY ALIGNED WITH HOW WE APPROVED IT, AND, UM, THAT'S WHERE I FEEL COMFORTABLE SPENDING IT SO WE CAN USE IT OUT OF A DIFFERENT FUND. I'M ALL FOR THAT BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE CODE TO THE FUTURE. IT'S NOT AGAINST THAT.IT'S NOT AGAINST BRINGING THIS PROGRAM OUT TO OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS OR BERNARDO YORBA. IT'S JUST, UM ABOUT THAT. WE. WE JUST HAD A PRESENTATION ABOUT THIS, AND IT WASN'T DISCUSSED AT ALL.
AND I JUST THINK THAT'S WHERE THE MONEY SHOULD BE USED. THAT'S WHAT WE APPROVED AND I THINK THAT'S WHERE I SHOULD SAY IT IS AN INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS. ARTS MUSIC, INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS BLOCK GRANT. IT'S $14 MILLION IN ADDITION, THERE'S PROP 28 MONEY FOR BAPA. SO THIS IS OUR RECOMMENDATION ON WHERE WE THINK THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO SPEND THIS BLOCK. GRANT UM UH AND WE'RE HAPPY TO COME BACK AND DO ANOTHER SUMMARY OF WHERE WE'RE SPENDING OUR ONE TIME MONEY, BUT THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO SPEND PART OF THIS $14 MILLION. I DO AGREE, AND I REMEMBER WHEN WE HELD THE MONEY. I THINK IT WAS. THERE WAS $5 MILLION THAT WAS GOING INTO MUSIC AND ARTS. AND THEN THERE WAS LIKE A $5 MILLION DISCRETIONARY FUNDING FOR THE SITES. AND SO I THINK WHEN WE REVAMPED THE NEXT BUDGET WITH DR TURNER'S HERE BECAME A LITTLE BIT MORE. UH UM LOCALIZED WHAT WE'RE DOING, BUT IT'S $75,000. I AGREE. I MEAN, I THINK IF THEY SAY THAT THIS IS THIS IS A GOOD USE OF THE MONEY THAT I THINK IT'S FINE. I THINK THAT YOU KNOW SCHOOLS GIVING THEIR INPUT IS GOOD. AND I'M SURE BERNARDO YOU KNOW WOULD APPRECIATE THIS. UM I , UM THIS GOING BACK TO OUR AUDIT AND ALL THE STRINGS THAT ARE TIED AND ALL THAT. WILL THIS HAVE ANY IMPACT IN OUR AUDIT AND USING IT IN THAT WAY AND HMM. SO YOU KNOW FOR THE ARTS AND INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS BLOCK GRANT. THERE'S LISTS OUT SOME ITEMS, BUT IT'S ALSO CAN BE USED FOR ANY, UH, DISTRICT PURPOSE WHATSOEVER. SO NO, THERE WON'T BE ANY ISSUES WITH THEM. EVEN THOUGH IT WASN'T ON, BUT THE BOARD APPROVED IT WAS BORDER PROVED IT WAS LIKE UMBRELLA APPROVED. THIS IS UNDER THAT UMBRELLA OF APPROXIMATELY $175,000 A YEAR WAS APPROVED BY THE BOARD TO GO TOWARDS MISCELLANEOUS CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS, CURRICULUM AND SERVICES. YES. AND WE ALSO ALLOCATED 800,000 A YEAR FOR MUSIC IS STRICT. DR FISHER RUBBED OFF ON ME FOR MUSIC, EQUIPMENT, MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS, AND SO WE DID ALLOCATE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY AND THIS BACKGROUND EVERY YEAR TO GO TOWARDS MUSIC EQUIPMENT, IN ADDITION TO EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE BACKGROUND. ALRIGHT IF NOTHING FURTHER WILL DO A ROLL CALL VOTE ALL THOSE IN FAVOR, MRS BUCK. MRS ANDERSON, I, MR FRASER. I. MR YOUNGBLOOD TONIGHT, I AIDEN ALRIGHT. THE VOTE CARRIES 50 WITH A VOTE FROM OUR STUDENT BOARD MEMBER IN THE AFFIRM AND. AND NOW WE'RE GOING
[23. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT]

[24. BOARD REPORT]
SEEMS LIKE THERE'S BEEN A LOT ALONG BOARD MEETING. I DON'T KNOW IF WE WANT TO CARRY ON ONLY HAVE THREE TINY LITTLE THINGS. OKAY LET'S START WITH YOU, MRS BUCK. IT HASN'T BEEN TOO BUSY OF A MONTH. UM, HAVEN'T GOTTEN OUT THERE A LOT, BUT, UM, BUT I DO HAVE SOME A HANDFUL OF THINGS TO CALL OUT. UM I ATTENDED VIA ZOOM THE FROM THE INSIDE SPEAKERS. UH, UM, EVENT THROUGH THE REACH FOUNDATION WHERE THEY HAVE A NUMBER OF STUDENTS COME PAST STUDENTS AND PRESENT STUDENTS AND, UM, HAVE AN INTERVIEW QUESTION AND ANSWER KIND OF SESSION ABOUT HOW THEIR EXPERIENCE IN HIGH SCHOOL WAS WHAT THEY'VE LEARNED NOW THAT THEY'VE THEY'RE IN COLLEGE AND MOVED ON INTO CAREER. UM, IT WAS REALLY NICE TO HEAR ALL OF THE STUDENTS. PERSPECTIVES DR.TURNESS WAS THERE AS THE GUEST SPEAKER THAT EVENING AS WELL. SO IT WAS NICE TO, UM, TO HAVE HIM BE THERE TO INTERACT WITH THE STUDENTS AS WELL. THANK YOU TO THE REACH FOUNDATION. IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS THAT THEY DO THE INSIDE THE SPEAKERS AND REALLY BRING IT HOME FOR OUR CURRENT STUDENTS. UM I ATTENDED THE ESPERANZA SHOWCASE, WHICH WAS WONDERFUL. IT WAS NICE TO SEE THE ACTIVITIES AND THE STUDENTS REALLY LEAD THE ENTIRE EVENT. UH AND THEN GET TO GO AROUND AND TOUR ALL OF THE DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS. TRY SOME OF THE FOOD GOING, UM AND SEE SOME OF THE DIFFERENT CLASSROOMS AND, YOU KNOW, GET PUSHED INTO, YOU KNOW, BEING ON CAMERA AND ALL THOSE KIND OF FUN THINGS. BUT IT WAS REALLY NICE. IT WAS A LOVELY EVENING. THE STUDENTS WERE, UM WELCOMING, AND THE TEACHERS SEEM TO BE HAVING A GREAT NIGHT AS WELL. AND THEN I ATTENDED THE CSB, A ANNUAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE JUST AFTER THANKSGIVING, AND I HAVE LOTS OF WONDERFUL INFORMATION. I BROUGHT A HANDFUL OF THINGS BACK FOR DR TURNER'S ALREADY AH AH AND WILL CONTINUE TO READ THROUGH ALL OF THE ARTICLES AND INFORMATION AND PRESENTATIONS THAT I DIDN'T GET TO ATTEND, BUT WANTED TO, UM, I ALSO SAW A COUPLE OF GREAT THINGS ON INCLUSION, WHICH I PASSED ALONG TO DR GRAY AND, UM AND SO BE INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE AS WE MOVE FORWARD AND PRESENT AND INCLUDING SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS AND EVERYTHING SO AND THAT REALLY? OH, A COUPLE OTHER THINGS. I'M GOING TO ESPERANZA. BUT THAT WAS WHAT I DID NOT COMING FORWARD GOING FORWARD. I'M GOING TO BE ATTENDING TENSILE ON FRIDAY. IF YOU HAVEN'T BEEN, PLEASE GO. IT'S AWESOME. UM AND THEN THE ESPERANZA IS HAVING A JAZZ CONCERT AS WELL. I'LL BE GOING TO AND THEN JUST THE LAST THING WE HAD MENTIONED EARLIER, UM, AT AN EARLIER MEETING WHEN WE WERE DOING THE PARENTAL NOTIFICATION, AND WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT A STUDENT'S RIGHTS HANDBOOK. UM SO I JUST WANTED TO FOLLOW UP AND GIVE A KIND OF, UM A PLUG AND A REMINDER THAT WE WANT TO CONTINUE TO WORK ON THAT STUDENT HANDBOOK AND, UM, THAT'S IT.
EVERYBODY HAVE A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON. AH, LOOK FORWARD TO, UM OUR DISTRICT. UH BREAKFAST OR LUNCHEON COMING UP, AND, UM, THAT'S IT FOR ME. HMM OKAY. IT WAS ANOTHER BUSY MONTH.

[02:25:05]
MEETING. BOTH OF THESE SHOWCASES HAD TREMENDOUS TURNOUTS. LOTS OF KIDS AND PARENTS AND I SO I WENT TO THREE THIS YEAR, AND IT'S JUST SO INTERESTING HOW EACH SCHOOL HAS THEIR OWN LITTLE TAKE ON IT. UM, BUT I REALLY LOVED THAT. A LOT OF HMM. THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME THING WHERE IT'S REALLY LED BY THE STUDENTS AND THE STUDENTS ARE TEACHING AND INTRODUCING. AND, UM I LOVE SEEING OUR STUDENTS SHINE AND I GOT TO SEE, UM SOME GREAT PERFORMANCES AND, UM. LEARN A LOT MORE ABOUT ALL OF OUR DIFFERENT PROGRAMS. I ATTENDED THE PLACENTA PRAYER BREAKFAST WITH DR GATES AND MR YOUNG BLOOD. AND MATT LUKE WAS THE GUEST SPEAKER AND HE HAD A REALLY GOOD UM, THAT I DIDN'T KNOW HIS STORY, AND IT WAS REALLY INSPIRING. THAT WAS GREAT . AND I WENT TO THE SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK MELROSE. UM AND I HELPED PACK PASS OUT FOOD AND 200 FAMILIES AND IT WAS JUST, UM. A GREAT EVENT TO SEE. OUR FAMILIES RECEIVE. FOOD AND THEIR SMILES AND THEY HAVE THE SECOND HARVEST FOOD. BANK HAS SUCH A GREAT DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS. AND I'VE BEEN OUT TO THREE OF THEM AND THE SAME PEOPLE AND THEY ARE AMAZING, AND I'M JUST SO GRATEFUL FOR THEIR DEDICATION AND THEIR SERVICE TO OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITIES. UM I TENDED THE WINTER MUSICAL FESTIVAL FEATURING THE CHOIRS FROM ELDORADO. ESPERANZA VALENCIA. YOU'RE WILLING TO HIGH SCHOOL AND ALSO SPOTLIGHTING THE ELDORADO. UM HIGH SCHOOL. SOME PHONY, UM, ORCHESTRA. UM, I LOVE THIS MUSIC. IT WAS SUCH A NICE, UM ENJOYABLE EVENING TO PUT ME IN THE MOOD FOR THE HOLIDAYS. SOME OF MY STAND OUT FAVORITES WAS THE YEAR BELINDA JAZZ COMBO JOINING WITH THE CHOIR IN A PENTATONIX CHRISTMAS MELODY. UM THE BASS CHOIR, UM, SEEING, UM A CLASSIC FROM THE BEACH BOYS. LITTLE SAINT NICK. AND FOR ESPERANZA VALENCIA HIGH SCHOOL.UM HAD THE MOST UNIQUE VERSION OF THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS THAT I HAD EVER HEARD. IT WAS AMAZING . UM IN FACT, I HAVE TWO SISTERS THAT ARE MUSIC TEACHERS, AND I SAID, I SAID, GET THIS ARRANGEMENT. UM WINTER WAS BEAUTIFULLY PERFORMED BY ELDORADO HIGH SCHOOL, AND THEY DEFINITELY LEFT A CHILL IN THE AIR. UM THERE'S SOME PHONY, UM, ORCHESTRA. I REALLY ENJOYED THEIR CHIP MONTHS SONG BECAUSE IT BROUGHT ME BACK TO MY CHILDHOOD. AND, UM, THE FINALE.
UM I THINK YEAH, AND THE FINALE WAS THE HOLLY, OF COURSE, AND IT WAS GREAT. SO MANY THINGS TO I MEAN, I KNOW IT'S A LOT OF WORK TO PULL ALL THOSE DIRECTORS ALL THOSE STUDENTS. UM JUST THE CORRELATION, UM, THE LIGHTING AND THE SOUND FOR THE STUDENTS OF LUNCH TO THAT, UM, DID THAT SO THANK YOU TO EVERYONE. UM I WENT TO THE SUPERINTENDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND LISTENED AND ENJOYED THE CONVERSATION ON PROP 28 FUNDING COMPUTER SCIENCE EXPANSION. UM. THEY'RE GONNA DIVE DEEP INTO MITIGATING COSTS FOR HIGH SCHOOLS IN FUTURE MEETINGS, SO THAT WILL BE AN INTERESTING DISCUSSION. AND UM, I REALLY ENJOYED HEARING FROM ALL THE DIFFERENT HIGH SCHOOLS SPOTLIGHTING AND ALL THE EXCITING THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING, UM AT EACH OF THE SCHOOLS. I ALSO ATTENDED THE C. B C. S B A CONFERENCE. UM I SOME OF THE CLASSES I WENT TO, UM, WAS ENSURING EQUAL TREATMENT AND ACCESS FOR YOUR STUDENT COMMUNITY. CYBERSECURITY UM, TOMORROW WORKFORCE IN THE CLASSROOM TODAY. UM WE RECEIVED A COMPLAINT NOW WHAT? SO I TRIED TO LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ALL THE DIFFERENT UNIFORM COMPLAINTS AND TITLE NINE COMPLAINTS AND WILLIAMS ACTS, BUT I THINK I'M GONNA HAVE TO TAKE THAT CLASS AGAIN. AH, I AM ATTENDED A DUAL LANGUAGE LEARNERS AND EARLY LITERACY FOR T K AND BEST PRACTICES FOR THAT.
UM UM SAL KHAN FROM THE KHAN ACADEMY WAS THERE AND HE WAS TALKING ABOUT HIS, UM COMING. GO HIS NEW AI PROGRAM AND HOW HOW IT'S GOING TO HELP TEACHERS AND STUDENTS, AND IT WAS A FASCINATING DISCUSSION. AND I THINK, UM, WE'RE GONNA PROBABLY HEAR MORE ABOUT THAT. AND HOW THAT WORKS, SO I JUST WANTED TO WISH EVERYBODY MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY HANUKKAH AND A VERY
[02:30:01]
HEALTHY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYBODY, AND I HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS THEIR THEIR WINTER HOLIDAY BREAK AND WE'LL SEE YOU IN JANUARY. TODD ARE YOU WITH US ? I AM WITH YOU. YEAH YOU'RE UP.I'M NOT FROZEN YET YET WAS WONDERING IF YOU'RE DOING SNOW ANGELS OUTSIDE. I AM VERY TEMPTED. UH SO FIRST OF ALL, I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED TO NOT BE THERE TONIGHT TO RECOGNIZE ALL THE FOOTBALL COACHES. IT HAS BEEN A PHENOMENAL SEASON TO WATCH ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE AND FOR ALL OF THE CGF SUCCESS THAT WE HAD THROUGHOUT THE DISTRICT. IT'S JUST AN EXCITING TIME FOR ATHLETICS IN OUR DISTRICT MEMBER EXCITED ABOUT THAT I WAS ABLE TO ATTEND THE BOOK OF DOG AT ELDORADO HIGH SCHOOL, PUT ON BY THE ELDORADO CLEAR DEPARTMENT.
UM AND THE THING THAT I CAME AWAY WITH FROM THAT OBVIOUSLY IT WAS GREAT PRODUCTION. I HAVE NEVER HEARD THE STORY BEFORE. IT'S VERY INTERESTING. UM SEEING JUST THE PORTRAYAL OF DOGS SPEAKING TO YOU IF YOU DON'T WANT HIM TALKING ABOUT, YOU SHOULD PROBABLY CHECK IT OUT. UM BUT THERE WAS SOMETHING THAT I IN THE INTERMISSION, THEN POSTERS OUT AND THE AUDITORIUM THAT YOU COULD GO LOOK AT, AND IT SHOWED THE PROCESS THAT THE STUDENTS TOOK IN CREATING THE WARDROBE AND THE SET DESIGN AND BUILDING THE SET AND I WAS ONE OF OUR, UH, KIDS. FRIENDS IS IN THE THEATER DEPARTMENT. SHE WASN'T IN THE PERFORMANCE, BUT SHE WAS THERE WITH US. SO I WAS ASKING THE QUESTIONS AND I GOT TO GIVE A BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE ELDORADO THEATER DEPARTMENT BECAUSE THEY DO WHAT AMAZING JOB OF GIVING OUR KIDS OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN WHAT GOES ON TO CREATE AN ENTIRE PRODUCTION THE SKILLS THESE KIDS LEARNED THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT THEY HAVE TO EXPERIENCE DESIGNING THEIR THOUGHT PROCESS OF WHAT COSTUMES THEY HAD NOTES ON WHAT COSTUME COULD BE GOOD. HOW COULD THEY DO THIS TOPIC THAT THEY CHANGED THAT IT WAS REALLY PHENOMENAL? JUST YET ANOTHER REASON THAT I LIKE ALL THESE CO CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES THAT ACTUALLY ADD TO A STUDENT'S ABILITY TO SUCCEED IN THE FUTURE, BECAUSE THE SKILLS THAT THEY GET UM, YOU KNOW, THEATER CLASS THAT MOST OF THE TIME DON'T EVER GET MENTIONED IS SOMETHING THAT THEY'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO USE IN A FUTURE SETTING, WHETHER IT'S IN THE THEATER DEPARTMENT OR JUST UNDERSTANDING THE PROCESSES OF HOW YOU COME TOGETHER AND COLLABORATE AND MAKE DECISIONS. I THINK IT WAS REALLY PHENOMENAL, AND THAT IS ONE OF THE MANY REASONS I LOVE OUR DISTRICT AND I LOOK FORWARD. BE BACK WITH YOU. NEXT MEETING. MERRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYONE AND THANK YOU VERY MUCH. THANK YOU, TODD. MR YOUNGBLOOD. OKAY SO AS MARYLAND MENTIONED I WAS WITH HER AT THE PLACENTA, MAYORS, BREAKFAST, PRAYER BREAKFAST. UM THAT WAS AN AMAZING STORY. MATT.
LUKE HAD I HAD NO IDEA THE JUST THE, UM ADVERSITY. HE HAD JUST THE DIFFICULTIES HE HAD, AND IT WAS IT WAS NICE HEARING HIM PUT IT INTO PERSPECTIVE. IF YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT, HE'S GOT A I GUESS THERE'S A VIDEO ON YOUTUBE. THAT KIND OF TELLS HIS STORY. IT'S A IT'S REALLY YOU KNOW, TUGS AT THE HEART, SO AWESOME GUY. IT WAS A GREAT TIME, SO I APPRECIATE BEING THERE. AS YOU CAN TELL THIS, UH, THIS LAST MONTH HAS BEEN, UH, OUR BUSY SEASON. IT SEEMS LIKE EVERYONE HAS BEEN GETTING ILL. UH SO IT'S A DEFINITELY BEEN KEEPING US HOPPING. UM AND SO I DIDN'T GET TO DO AS MANY THINGS AS I'D LIKE TO, ESPECIALLY THE SHOWCASES. I WANTED TO GET OUT AND SEE SOME OF THE SHOWCASES THAT WERE BEING GIVEN. BUT AFTER , UM TRYING TO GO TO THE, UH, THE ELDORADO FOOTBALL GAME, AND THAT WAS UH, GOT A LITTLE ILL DURING THAT TIME, UM AND WAS HAVING TO TRY TO LIVE STREAM IT. I DON'T KNOW IF SOME OF YOU GUYS TRIED TO LIVE STREAM THAT, BUT I WAS HAVING SOME INTERNET ISSUES OR SOMETHING BECAUSE IT WOULD CUT IN AND OUT, SO I WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED AT THAT. AND I KNOW OUR, UM OUR KIDS DID AN AMAZING AMAZING JOB. UM AND THEY PUT THEIR HEART INTO EVERYTHING, AND , UH, WAS ENJOYING WHAT I DID SEE OF IT, SO THEY DID SOME SOME REALLY GOOD WORK. I LOOK FORWARD TO NEXT YEAR. I THINK ALL FOUR OF THESE SCHOOLS ARE GOING TO BE A POWERHOUSE TO DEAL WITH. SO UM, I DID WANT TO THROW A SHOUT OUT. UM UH, THE I GOT A EMAIL JUST RECENTLY FROM, UH, DR GATES IN REGARDS TO R. J ROTC PROGRAM AT ESPERANZA. WE WERE ON THE VERGE OF LOSING THAT PROGRAM. WE COULDN'T FIND A DIRECTOR TO TAKE THAT OVER. BUT FORTUNATELY, WE WERE, UM WE WERE BLESSED TO FIND SOMEONE THAT THIS GENTLEMAN'S NAME IS DAVID. UH MEN, GARLEY
[02:35:07]
MEN, GARDY. WITH 20 YEARS OF ARMY EXPERIENCE, SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT THAT PROGRAM.GETTING UP AND RUNNING, THEN UM, OTHER THAN THAT, UM, TO WANT TO WISH YOU GUYS SAY A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. HAPPY HANUKKAH. UM HAVE A AMAZING REST OF YOUR YEAR AND, UM AND I PRAY THAT WE'LL HAVE A AMAZING SCHOOL YEAR NEXT YEAR AS WELL AND HAVE A GOOD NIGHT.
ALRIGHT, I'LL BE VERY, VERY QUICK. UM I WAS ABLE. TO GO TO, YOU KNOW, A COUPLE OF FOOTBALL GAMES. UM I ALSO STREAMED THE THAT IS THAT THE N H. I S 1199 A MONTH AND YOU CAN TURN ON BASICALLY ANY NIGHT AND WATCHING HIM FOR SCHOOLS. FOR SOCCER BASKETBALL ANYTHING, AND SO I WATCHED THE ELDORADO GAME WAS KIND OF HEARTBREAKING GAME. UM, I WAS HAVING TO PICK SOMEONE OF MY KIDS UP FROM SOMEWHERE, SO I WAS WATCHING IT AT HOME ON THE TV AND I TOOK IT ON MY PHONE.
YOU KNOW, LISTENING TO IT IN THE CAR AND STUFF AND MAN, WHAT A GAME THAT WAS. AND I HEARD YOU GUYS WERE THERE. UM SO I'M APPRECIATIVE OF THAT. BECAUSE NOW I'VE NOTICED. I THINK TODAY I ONE OF OUR SOCCER TEAMS WAS PLAYING SOMEWHERE AND THEY WERE BROADCASTING IT, SO I THINK THAT'S GOING TO BE A GREAT TOOL FOR US TO BE ABLE TO USE TO KIND OF JUST STAY INVOLVED EVEN FROM HOME. THE OTHER ONLY OTHER THING THAT I WAS ASKING A LOT OF PARENTS WERE ASKING FOR CLARIFICATION ON WAS THERE WAS A BOOSTER MEETING. UM, I THINK IT WAS LAST MONTH. AND, UM, THERE ARE SOME NEW RULES AND STIPULATIONS THAT WERE PUT IN PLACE. AND I KNOW A LOT OF OUR PARENTS ARE, UM, CONFUSED ABOUT IT. AND SO I WAS WONDERING IF WE COULD POSSIBLY SEND OUT AN EMAIL TO THE BOOSTERS. UM JUST ABOUT THERE WAS A LOT OF THINGS THAT IN THE MEETING ABOUT DUDES, AND DON'T UM AS FAR AS YOU KNOW, LIKE CASINO NIGHTS AND BINGO AND DIFFERENT THINGS, AND THERE WERE SOME PEOPLE CODES ATTACHED TO THAT. UM HOWEVER, IF YOU READ FURTHER INTO IT, IT ALSO SAID THAT YOU KNOW, NONPROFITS ARE EXEMPT FROM THIS. AND THEN SO THERE WAS SOME DISCREPANCIES AMONG THE DISTRICT FAMILIES IS BECAUSE APPARENTLY, UM, SOME OF THE BOOSTER PROGRAMS WERE TOLD NO FOR BINGO NIGHTS, BUT THEN WE HAVE SOME P T A S AROUND OUR DISTRICT DOING BEING GOOD NIGHTS. AND SO THEY SAID, IS IT BOOSTER LIKE TO LIKE STUDENT AT ALL BE THE SAME. AND SO I THINK THAT CLARIFICATION WOULD BE GREAT GOING FORWARD BECAUSE I KNOW A LOT OF OUR BOOSTERS AND OUR SPORTS PROGRAM PTS. I KNOW EVERYBODY, UM, YOU KNOW, PLANS THEIR FUNDING, AND, UM, WE JUST WOULDN'T WANT ANYBODY ANY PROGRAMS TO LOSE OUT BECAUSE OF ANY TYPE OF MISINFORMATION OR UM, WHATEVER THAT IS. I CAN GIVE YOU A LITTLE FEEDBACK. UM IT REALLY COMES DOWN TO PUTTING IN LIKE THERE'S A LIMIT ON HOW MANY YOU CAN HAVE A YEAR. UM AND YOU HAVE TO SUBMIT A DOCUMENT AHEAD OF TIME AND THEN IT SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO FORWARD, RIGHT? BUT THEY WERE TOLD THAT THEY COULDN'T DO IT AT ALL. YOUR MEETING CLARIFICATION WOULD BE GOOD CLARIFICATION AS TO WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS. AND THAT IS IT. AND I WISH EVERYBODY A MERRY CHRISTMAS. I'VE BEEN DOWN. MY SON HAD A FOOTBALL INJURY. SO I HAD A BIG SURGERY LAST MONDAY. SO I'VE BEEN IN THE HOUSE, UM WITH HIM. I DID SNEAK AWAY TO NASHVILLE THIS WEEKEND WITH MY SISTER IN LAW FOR GIRLS TRIP.
THANK YOU, MY HUSBAND FOR CALLING AND USING A SICK TIME. UM SO I COULD GET AWAY FOR A LITTLE BIT. BUT THAT WAS GREAT. UM WE GOT TO SELL THE CHRISTMAS FESTIVITIES. GRAND OLD OFRI CHRISTMAS PROGRAM. UM WE GOT TICKETS TO BLUEBIRD CAFE, WHICH I KNOW TODD IS VERY JEALOUS ABOUT UM, BUT, YEAH, SO WE'VE KIND OF GOT IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT THIS WEEKEND. AND SO I HOPE EVERYBODY HAS A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR AND WE'LL SEE YOU IN JANUARY. AND WITH THAT, I'LL TAKE A MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT. MOTION TO ADJOURN SECOND. I HAVE EMOTION BY MISS BUCK A SECOND BY MR ANDERSON AND WE WILL ADJOURN AT WHAT WOULD THAT BE ABOUT YOUR SORRY WE DON'T VOTE, DON'T WE? OKAY ROLL CALL ANDERSON FRAZIER. I. I IS THAT 1847
